Cheating would involve violating some rule to obtain an advantage. The rules don't mandate sportsmanship, and using the menu to log off doesn't violate any rules.
I'd personally argue that logging off specifically to prevent pursuit or attack is a gross violation of verisimilitude; that the current mechanism is simultaneously more inconvenient for the one logging off than it needs to be while not providing a large enough window of vulnerability to prevent abuse of the feature; all of which amount to it being poorly implemented and in need of adjustment...
However, it's not cheating.
What if a player was on a planet, playing in Mobius for example,purely hyperthetical, maybe exploring a newly found Thargoid site, for arguments sake 6 months ago, and a couple of ships started destroying several ships on the ground, whilst their commanders were inside the structure in their SRVs, investigating the newly discovered Thargoid star map, would you think it acceptable to combat log on such an occasion?, or would you view that as being in combat, or would you consider the attackers as a couple of impotent coward nonses?, as I would . I'd be interested to know your thoughts DeathDingo?

Yeah nonconsensual PvP violates Mobius rules but it does not violate EULA, it's actually advertised by FDev. Hence it can't possibly compare to CLogging or 5-1 Engie exploit, both plain cheating.

If it goes against a specific Private Group rules, it's up to their administrators to kick the culprits from their group… and improve their application process.

I'm confused. Is the Sidewinder now considered OP and the ultimate griefer/ganker ride of choice now?
First let's be clear - you're in an un-griefable ship. The only ship that can't be mass-locked by another. As you incorrectly claim he couldn't kill you so why log? Let's not even debate that it's cheating, which in my opinion it absolutely is as you're doing something to avoid a conflict, but it takes far longer to wait 15 seconds, log out, switch to solo (which I'm sure you hid in), then log out again and come back to open than it would to just use the existing game mechanics and jump after the FSD reboot.
As someone else said Elite isn't worth the digital paper it's printed on. Oh, and BTW I *have* killed a player Cutter in my Sidewinder before, was able to shoot out his FSD while he tried to fight me with turrets. The difference was he was an adult about it and didn't need to log - as he realizes this is a video game that we play for fun. Clearly if you need to come here and scream at one of the nicest and more honorable pilots in the game you seriously need to stop playing Elite. I mean really, if a Sidewinder can make you this unbelievable angry why even bother playing Elite or in open at all? Please just stay in Solo where you so clearly belong.
