Elaborate, zig?
You stated it is cheating, then argued against that.
It shows an open mind and introspection and I for one respect that.

Menu logging is cheating, man. It really is.
It may not violate the TOS because it uses an in-game mechanic, but it's unsportsmanlike and dishonest.
Whether or not a 15 second log out while someone is attcking you is allowed by Fdev or not, does not matter. Whether you log out on someone attacking you (which is considered being in combat) using the task kill option or the 15 second option does not matter. The fact is, it's still logging out while in combat, thus making it combat logging!! You should just delete your save now and never play again logging on a sidewinder in a cutter!!!
What if a player was on a planet, playing in Mobius for example, purely hyperthetical, maybe exploring a newly found Thargoid site, for arguments sake 6 months ago, and a couple of ships started destroying several ships on the ground, whilst their commanders were inside the structure in their SRVs, investigating the newly discovered Thargoid star map, would you think it acceptable to combat log on such an occasion?, or would you view that as being in combat, or would you consider the attackers as a couple of impotent coward nonses?, as I would . I'd be interested to know your thoughts DeathDingo?, but it could happen, and if it did players may 'get good' , and remember. A dingo is an Aussie dog, are you SDC?, every action has a consequence, wouldn't you think ? ..

Cheating would involve violating some rule to obtain an advantage. The rules don't mandate sportsmanship, and using the menu to log off doesn't violate any rules.
I'd personally argue that logging off specifically to prevent pursuit or attack is a gross violation of verisimilitude; that the current mechanism is simultaneously more inconvenient for the one logging off than it needs to be while not providing a large enough window of vulnerability to prevent abuse of the feature; all of which amount to it being poorly implemented and in need of adjustment...
However, it's not cheating.
I can't make this up:
Delta Squad presents itself:
Crimes we punish; killing CMDRs, unethical pirating (killing CMDR after the pirate's demands were met - cargo handed over), extortion for "protection and safety", combat logging, griefing and ganking.
combat logging on a sidewinder is impossible to beat.
QED [big grin]Yeah!
"OP pirates with zero risk?" "Risk should cut both ways?" Well, that begs the question, Artichoke7: exactly how much "risk" should a pilot using a sidewinder to steal from Cutters and Corvettes actually face?
QED [big grin]
Sorry, I didn't manage to answer earlier, Monsieur Dumb@ss (or have you changed your cmdr name due to incessant ridicule? Ahh, I see you have! [haha])...but, unfortunately I have a life! I also see that you've been busy on the forums over the Christmas period, whereas I have been having fun with my friends & family! Well, to each his own!
..& I've just driven home this morning in heavy snow! That was as much fun as trying to get a lumberjack from a northern US state such as errmmm, Montana, to comprehend a simple concept...& just as slow!
Artichoke7? Wow, genius!...I can almost hear your brain ticking.[blah] In answer to your question...'Some risk would be adequate!'

Salt salt so much salt thxkbye
Nothing wrong with being a lumberjack as long as your name is not Eugene!
Nah m8
Emergent gameplay in the form of meme-able stuff always keeps on giving.
You'll see!
Vindaloo made me wonder what all of the fuss was about, so I've read the thread! LOL
Well done! This was a dead thread until you gave it the kiss of life - nay, applied a defibrillator!
I have some sympathy with the premise of your general argument but the spurious nature of your specific highlighted reasoning is pretty desperate.
The OP pirates in a good natured manner but does it with zero risk - as usual in this community, blinkered expediency is at the heart of their agenda. Piracy should cut both ways & it should be high risk/high reward; using a SR hull tank Sidey with DD5s is a pirate worthy of scorn.
If he interdicted me, I would probably play along...but for those players who do not wish to do that, there should be the option to kick his butt or escape - the FSD disruptor is basically just an irritant in this case, causing tedium. This is why this event feels like griefing.
All of the disingenuous support for the OP reminds me of a pack mentality like kids looking over the bully's shoulder at his victim shouting "Yeah!" while shaking their fists.
However, your behaviour and subsequent excuses border on Jose Mourinho levels of idiocy!
