If you are an Elite Vet, go ahead and skip past, This will bore you, and it is likely to be long, and drawn out for no reason. Now that those guys are gone, if you're an Elite vet, that has achieved this status out of a pure love for the game, the intellectual property, and you're confused as to why all these young "whippersnappers" keep complaining, and asking for a real world economy system where they get paid CASH to play, then Please, by all means, chime in. Many of you are smarter than I am. AND if you're the special type of person that wants to pay it forward, and help the next guy stepping in green, NOT be confused at the mechanics, then please, by all means, impart your wisdom. This is a thread to "pay it forward" (Until it's buried under 3 pages of complaints in about, ohhhhh. . .15 minutes.) For you new pilots (Welcome Steam friends! Enlarge our universe!) Hopefully you will find some early info to SAVE YOUR LIFE (and credits) while starting out.
I started the thread, I'll throw the first pitch.
RULE #1: Don't "double-tap" out of hyperspace because you overshot. Stop. Just stop.
Do a loop, while finding the 75% "blue range", you'll be there in less than 15 seconds. Double tap out of HS, take damage, let the FS drive cool down for 17! hours, then try again? No thanks. Do a loop, you will be at the station before the next guy recharges his drive.
|And on that note: Submit to ALL interdictions immediately. Even if you are an explorer returning with 9 Mill credits, or a trader with 4M credits worth of cargo, As SOON as you recognize the interdiction message/popup, KILL throttle. I understand that chasing that circle to "avoid" the situation is almost irresistable, but. . .BIG BUT, when you fail (and sometimes you do), your FS drive takes 20-30 seconds to charge, WHILE YOU ARE BEING MURDERED. Submit. . .5 second recharge, MAYBE enough time to type a message that says "Soyanora, Beeeeoooootch!", and you're GONE.
Okay, Bonus advice for newbies.
#2: I know the Cobra is classic and good at everything, but, as a newb, you should know:
The Cobra is the best VALUE in the universe, not the best FIGHTER. these get confused quickly. If you want to PLAY ELITE, then a Cobra is great. BUT, If you want to be OMNIPOTENT in the Elite universe, you are going to need a viper or vulture (2 differing strategies, learn WHY.) When used correctly, these ships cannot be stopped. A big deal when "figuring out mechanics" in a game. Hint : Viper = speed, catch ANYONE, run from ANYONE. YOU create the rules of engagement.
Vulture: Rules? There are rules? I just point "toward" the guy, and he is dead SO INCREDIBLY fast, i was not aware that RULES played a part.
Now, the newbie viper combat pilot (that has figured out in 4 hardpoints, u get SOME to take shields quick, then OTHERS to take hull quick. Here's what you wanted for advice, or progression info:
Remember when you (in a viper BH role) pulled up on that Clipper, and you just stayed on his tail with the button down. Well, what the question is, is "WHY would a Vulture be an upgrade from OMNIPOTENCE!"
Here's yuor simple answer: remember lighting him up, and watching the hull go 35%, 34%, 33%. . .(whats the power plant at??! that's what im targeting, Damn it's at 63%. . .kill the hull!)The point NOT being put across effectively is that, WITH A VIPER IT GOES 35,34,33. . .Once you go Vulture, it happens more like 35,31,27,23. . .The clipper is dead in a few seconds. . .and helpless. just running and dying. I am NOT saying the vulture is BETTER than a clipper, I'm saying, if your new, figuring it out, you BETTER have an idea of why what is what. Help draw them in Commanders!
