Advice from anyone with Oculus and steamVR Headset

Hi
I have a quest. I also have a G2.
With my quest ED just works...... I select launch with steamVR but it works with native Oculus mode..
My quest is not plugged in.
I go to launch in steamVR mode and it still opens the Oculus software and doesn't open steam VR. The game is on my monitor screen and with no head tracking.

I can't be the only one with an Oculus headset and a steamVR one esp with a lot of us getting a G2. Please help.

Have you got Windows Mixed Reality for Steam installed?

Yes I have.
I did get it working eventually tho was a lot of faffing and Oculus software still opened which is not ideal. I had to open steamVR 1st then alt tab out and then open ED. It then worked but like I said I had both lots of software running.

I can't believe this is the supported way to open the game.
Thanks
Mike

I don’t think it’s supposed to be this way and I’ve definitely seen other players mention this problem with Oculus starting up when it shouldn’t - a quick Google found this:

...though I don’t know if that’s your particular issue.

Edit: you could also stop the Oculus service when using WMR - on Admin command prompt type:

net stop "OVRService"

This prevents the Oculus Client from starting when running WMR VR. When you want to use Rift again, run:

net start "OVRService"

You could also use the Oculus tool tray thing to stop the service.

I’m not sure if it is still the case as I’ve uninstalled the Oculus software but there was a setting in there that you had to turn on to allow 3rd party apps to launch the oculus software. I couldn’t get my Rift to run Elite without changing that. Perhaps if it’s still there changing it so 3rd party applications isn’t allowed it will stop it launching automatically.

As previously mentioned stopping the OVRserivce should prevent the Oculus software launching. You can also get to that from the processes (or services, can’t remember the heading) tab using task manager. I’ve been having an issue with my Rift S that forced me to keep having to restart it from there (the Rift S saying it had been disconnected when it hadn’t).
