Horizons Advice needed-scan comms array

So I have these missions to eliminate some bad dudes but in order to locate them I have to scan a comms array. I can find the comms array but it seems it is locked away in a forbidden zone. Looks like it might be on top of some structure too but I can probably climb the wall in a SRV. Anyway, is this mission do-able? I reckon what's going to happen is that I will get fined when I enter and then after a little time the circulating dropship will start beating up on my ship and the towers and skimmers will start shooting at me in the SRV. The likelihood of getting the scan done and returning to my ship before either or both of us being blown up seems rather slim.

Has anybody done these successfully? How?

I've done some of these...

First thing - dismiss your ship, worst case then is you lose your SRV and restart in orbit back in your ship. Once you've got the scan, dying in the SRV won't fail the mission so just make a run for it, and don't recall your ship till it's safe.

You'll (probably) find there's a shield-barrier-thing blocking a route to the comms point - this can be removed by blowing up the generator (if it's a high-sec base it'll also disable the defense turrets, but you'll still have to deal with the skimmers). Alternatively it's usually possible to jump over from another building; you'll need to explore a bit to find a route, but this is normally my plan A.

As kpmop said dismiss your ship, depending on the base you may need to get up onto it in a suicide run, (as in you die but complete the mission) or some times depending on the base i can scan them from the ground if it is close to the wall and i can make it out wanted but alive.

Ah - great - that's good advice. Thanks guys. It would be wise, then, to study the layout off-line and work out a route and a plan. But it sounds like it is do-able so I'll give it a go.

I study the layout in game. Get in close but out side the forbidden zone with your ship or srv and go to external camera. It works like a zoom.

Good thinking MM - thanks. I haven't actually mastered the camera yet - tried it once and got so confused I just gave up. I suppose this might be an incentive to try again.
