Engineers Advice on assassination mission please!.

Hi

I took on a kill pirate lord. Overall the structure of it felt much like a mission and was good.

Jumped to the system, got a message with just had info he was last seen near and it was about 1300ls away.

Flew there and did what mission suggested dropping in to usses near the planet last seen. Also checked all ships in sc in the area but no joy. Eventually got another message saying time has passed

Please help. What was I doing wrong? Thanks

I don't have personal experience myself but from reading in the forums:
You might be able to scan the nav beacon in the target system to get a target position. The mission-signal-soruce where you find your target should be classified as a mission one, so if it is a normal one don't bother dropping into it.

Not sure that you did anything wrong...

When you are given a target body, you need to fly really quite close to it. Don't look for signal sources, just ignore any you fly past, and once you are close enough, you will get a message (in blue in the info panel) that a mission specific USS has been discovered (words to that effect). Target it, and it will be your target.

I have had one instance where a target never showed up, but I've done quite a few of these missions in beta and in live and they are generally reliable. However, might be worth a bug report. The only thing I can think is that you didn't get close enough to the target location / planet.

I think you have to scan the system on entry, then get the message and when you reach the destinated area, you stay in supercriuse until you stumble upon a blue USS with a special name (Mission: ...) This is you target.
Vindicator Jones has a video about that.

Target and scan the plane body where it's supposed to be the pirate.

Then keep the distance from it and try navigate around it-

Can't say the exact distance but:

1) sometimes you'll found him in the blue area (sub orbital);

2) some others you'll find him a bit distance the green orbit (the last one)
