Hold your horses Commander, and welcome to Elite: Dangerous!
Just like previous iterations, Elite: Dangerous is not user friendly in the typically quirky british sort of way.
Forget about the tutorials. Go grab that Sidewinder. Get blown up several times, Marvel at the lack of information as to what to actually do, and how to do it.
Slowly settle into the knowledge and remember that this is typical Elite.
Spend hours watching Youtube videos on how to. Spend hours on this forum trying to understand the non sensical ins and outs.
And then remember that there is no end game. There is no race (unless you make it so).
Only thousands of hours of gameplay, where you fly around space, doing what you want to do. And that the game world will continue to grow richer over time.
