advice on the FDL

Greetings Cmdr's, hope your all doing well.....

Im looking at upgrading from the vulture to an FDL and was hoping some of you awesome people out there could point me in the right direction when it comes to building one, im thinking more pve hazres, bounty hunting, possibly even dealing with pirates... ive not got into cg's yet but think i may do once ive got this kitted out and played with....

So in my vulture ive been playing it with twin PA's, where as a knife fight is ok im looking more into been able to damage when theres a gap between me and my target hopefully burn them down quite quick if possible, im just unsure what to go with as ive only played the PA's pretty much from start, didnt take long to get the vulture after having my eagle..

I have a FDL with 5 long range fixed pulse lasers. Works pretty well in most situations and might fit the bill for you. Maybe replace the huge hardpoint with an overcharged multicannon (probably gimballed, so you can keep hitting with your fixed pulse lasers) to shred hulls...I personally like my lasers but that's a popular thing to do.

The most popular build for FDLs has been three plasma accelerators (efficient or long range - one dispersal, one target lock breaker, one emissive), and two long range rails (one feedback, one super penetrator). Personally I don't really like the build but a lot of people really do.

I use four medium multi-cannons, all overcharged, and at least one with corrosive shell. For the huge hardpoint, I use a long-range beam laser with thermal vent. Works like a dream in my local HazRES.

I have a Huge MC with Corrosive, 2 med efficient beams, and 2 long range Imperial Hammers. It's a lot of fun.

I have recently just changed my multi-cannon specification, but stored the old ones for possible re-use.

Currently Huge beam (G5 efficient), 2 x medium pulse lasers (G5 overpowered), 1 x medium multi-cannon (G5 high capacity/corrosive), 1 x medium multi-cannon (G5 overcharged/auto-loader). I can't remember what the experimental effects are on the lasers. With the previous overpowered G5 multi-cannons this seemed to work well in combat zones and in resource extraction sites, but I am no combat guru!

I use the inverse :) 4 medium fixed efficient beams and a huge gimballed overcharged multi with corrosive shell. The beams have thermal vent. The hardpoint placement is lovely for the medium hardpoints and they do give a really nice lightshow.

The message seems to be though, that there are lots of combinations that work for people, which is nice. Play around and let us know what you end up with. I would say that the FDL can keep fairly close to big ships, not quite as in your face as the vulture, but there's no need to fight at long range in it if that's not your style.

Thanks Cmdr's i really appreciate the replys, how do you have your guns set.. all on one fire button? Or different setups for different situations?

Do you have VR?
If no, check out cockpit FIRST. Screenshots and vids. Then think about purchase.

I wish i had vr... im on xbox so no such luxurys for me haha...

Ive heared people dont like the cockpit so maybe ill check that out first then

For me, this ship is unflyable. Without an eyepatch on the right eye at least. Some have no issues, some can get over, some just can't. Well it's not like you will lose much on trying.

For me all lasers on fire group one and multi-cannons on fire group 2, but I have seen set-ups with all weapons on a single fire group. Like the type of weapons, it just depends on what you feel comfortable with.

I've tried the 4 medium MC's and 1 huge laser setup vs the 4 medium lasers and 1 huge MC setup and much prefer the latter. I'll be honest, I'm not such a massive fan of the FDL after flying the FAS and Chieftain but having said that, I did enjoy the having a boatload of shields while still being fast and nimble. I can see why others love it. The cockpit never bothered me and I maintain it's the best looking ship in the game.

I recently switched to the same setup with 4 efficient beams and a huge corrosive multicannon.
But doing a lot of wing haz res/CZ I modded the beams with 3*regeneration and one concordant.
Beams on trigger 1 and multi on trigger 2.

Currently using 2 medium beams with g1 long range mod stripped down, considering swapping one with thermal vent. Then 3 multicannons with g5 overcharged corrosive on the huge slot and just g2 overcharged with autoloader on the medium ones, all of them gimballed.

Previously I was using 4 g4 rapid fire pulses while the huge mc was with g5 rapidfire.

The previous setup strips shield faster at short range but pretty rubbish against hull and drained even a g5 charge enhanced pwr distributor so fast.

The current setup is a bit worse at draining shield but since I can now dish out the full damage of beam lasers up to 3 km range so generally it feel the same, however the addition of oc mc ensure I can kill even elite npc corvette much faster than before, I do now have a problem with heat though, beam lasers are nasty, that's why I contemplating to sacrifice a bit of mass to change the effects to thermal vent.
