Advice sought from explorers who will be outside of the bubble when 2.1 drops.

So yeah, I'm like 15Kly out from the bubble after spending the last 5 and a bit months out on DWE.
Problem is RL next week is insanely mental busy and there is no chance of me hitting home before thur.
What should I do?
I'd be a bit 'annoyed' if my 5 months of exploring is going to be canned because of unstable update game mechanics.
What would you do? Sensible advice sought but I'm aware by saying that I'm pretty shafted:)
Advice as always appreciated.

I have two chief concerns. Buggy server issues rendering my 5 months of explorer data screwy somehow, and getting my ass ripped off by a new 2.1 godlike NPC who can take me down in 1-2 shots.

Personally, I've pulled a couple all nighters just to get back early to the bubble (RL is almost completely keeping me from play during "reasonable" hours).

If I were you and there was just no way to make it back before Thursday, I would hold off on the return until a few days post patch, hopefully giving Fdev time to sort things out. That isn't going to save you from souped up NPC's, but it might be prudent re: server issues. I'll be swapped out of my exploration rig and into my FdL and I'd be happy to lend a hand with an escort upon your return if you're concerned about being interdicted.

Kinda halfway to nowhere really, perhaps drop down or head up then make way home scanning as much as possible. With luck you can time it so you can hand in data just before 2.1 drop then head out again, or have a look see at engineers, possibly getting an upgraded FSD. Then offski again.

Edit Of course if I had read you post properly, although I would still head back. If you stay out and continue exploring you will still face coming back in the face of engineers.

I'd carry on bimbling around in the black for a few days until the update has dropped and everything has settled down.

When you're ready to head back, pick a system on the edge of the bubble and run like hell, although I think the threat from NPC isn't as apocalyptic as some claim. I'd offer an escort but I'll be heading the opposite direction for a rift patrol

I've been bumbling around in beta between Sol, Kuhn, Almagest and Maia.

I've been interdicted a few times, but nothing I couldn't out run. I think the super-NPC hype is just that.

I did make the mistake of trying to take on one NPC, but as it rapidly showed me the error of my ways, a quick Brave Sir Robin saved what was left of my hull.

Similar situation here. Even if I do like 10k a week, I wont be back until end of June. And I'm not doing 10k a week! No time to try beta either. My vague hope is, like every other update, the differences are exaggerated and things will still be fine. At worst, you can always try setting up an armed escort for the final stage home.

Iv always returned to Fu Station in the Caucuma system.

Iv always gone in from the west, so it's the first habitable system you come across....it's right on the edge of the bubble.

Iv NEVER encountered ANY NPC's on the route into Caucuma & Fu Station is only 96LS from entry in this Independent system.

It helps too that I'm Allied with every faction in this system!

Yeah, I was worried about the patch as well, so I dashed back to the bubble and actually made it, just barely, with only 6% hull remaining. Next time, I'll probably bring some heat sinks.
.
When you do come home, I'd recommend my endpoint (assuming you're on OK terms with the Federation): Bakewell Point in the Pallaeni system. The outpost is close to the star and lightly traveled, with a safe approach to the system. You can sell your data, get repairs, and even upgrade some of your ship components (although it's a meager selection).

as many, i was hit by 1.5 on return trip.

as far as i'm aware, nobody lost any data. in worst case (1.5 was a worst case), you might need to stop exploring for some days, or go home without any further scanning. which is bad - but not THAT bad.

so - get your RL sorted so it doesn't hinder your exploration :p and no need to be afraid of not making it back in time

(currently flying my main account back to the bubble... i plan on being back tuesday, but the sun is great, friends and beers are plenty...)

In general I've found that there's usually more panic than warranted with these things, so I'm not overly concerned (34kly out atm and not even trying to speed it up). If, when 2.1 hits, I still keep hearing it's dangerous to return alone I suppose I'll ask a friend or iridium wing to escort me in. But I wouldn't worry about it.

I have no intention of docking any time soon, probably not this year at my current rate.

I'll download a patch on Thursday and then just carry on regardless. My only real concern is the time to download the darned update...
