It's entirely possible they just simply can't even fathom our process of intelligent thought compared to their own. It would be worthwhile to try, though.

i had a theory a while ago, but didn't think it was worth anything since there were better sounding ones at the time, but if the thargoids are a insectoid species then they will probably have a hive mind. and a hive mind needs a queen which means somewhere out there is one or more queens, and also don't forget there could be bigger ships out there waiting for the second invasion.

which brings me to my theory of the attacks on fleets and capital ships, i honestly believe that the interceptors are basically cleaning up after the attacks picking up salvage and prisoners. but the what if the attack is not done by the interceptors but a capital size ship that jumps in attacks then jumps out leaving the interceptors to search for valuables and prisoner, because lets face facts interceptors are not exactly capital ship killers. to be honest i hope i am right, but i probably wrong

In a great many science fiction books, series, and games I've seen over the years, that's usually the case. From their point of view, we destroyed their barnacles (which are living organisms and might be their true form being transported aboard the ships) and have already declared war on them. Most tend to go with individuality being non-existant but see the swarm as an extension of their body and consciousness since they're a collective with a hive mind. Even the Borg fit this criteria.

In many ways the Zerg, Xenomorphs (Alien) and Tyranids come to mind since they've become a part of pop culture over the years. Make no mistake, once again we slaughtered them first even before the Scouts and Interceptors started showing up. They're just responding in kind... "for science."

I doubt a diplomatic solution will be available until we understand each other on a deeper level (Enemy Mine for example.)

As a proud member of the FLC all venues of understanding, and patience must be exhausted before a full scale declaration of war is issued. We can ill afford another Klenda-- I mean Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-55!

They communicate roughly in several distinct modes:

When they go green, it's "go about your business."

When they go blue... not sure yet.

Red is definitly a warning/rage.

Then there's the scanning-honk.

When we back off, the recognize this and stand down most of the time.

So they are communicating to us, albeit on a very simple level... perhaps this is the only level they can communicate with us at present.

Why do You think so? let's say you and another person don't know any languages so you try to communicate with obvious for you signs.
