Aegis crys havoc and unleashes Anti-Thargoid Megaships of War!

Aegis has constructed two megaships, the Acropolis and the Vanguard, to help counter the Thargoid threat.

The announcement came from Admiral Aden Tanner, who explained the ships’ purpose:

“It is vital that Aegis has a military presence in the theatre of conflict. These new ships will coordinate anti-Thargoid operations wherever they are deployed, and will support independent pilots.”

“In response to recent Thargoid incursions, the Acropolis has been dispatched to the Lunguni system, while the Vanguard is operating in the Mentor system. However, their key advantage over a starport or base is their mobility, so both will periodically relocate to wherever they can be strategically effective.

Admiral Tanner went on to stress the importance of the development:

“Constructing these two gigantic vessels was a considerable undertaking for Aegis, but we are convinced the expense and effort is worthwhile. Our remit requires us to occupy a guiding role in the resistance against the Thargoids, and these megaships will bring that into focus.”

Between Eagle Eye and now this, it looks like Tanner's minions are on a roll.

Let's see how the Thargoid Nation responds.

Good! Now if only they would:

1. Release AX weapons in C4 size.
2. Release Gimballed versions of AX multicannons
3. Fix the EMP neutralizer so it could protect capital ships, and possibly stations
4. Remove the limit of 4 experimental weapons per ship limit

Oh yes please?! But that would nake too much sense..

Mentor is crawling with NHSS at the moment, lots of 4's, 6 and 7's, occasional 8!

but no 5's, which I can just about cope with at the mo.

Now they only need to proof these things can deal with a shutdown pulse without becoming huge coffins, turning the Acropolis into a Necropolis and the Vandguard into a Graveyard. To me they just seem to be really big targets.

If these anti-thargoid mega ships turn out not to carry anti-thargoid weapons and devices in outfitting for pilots, then they have already failed in my eyes.

great,
its an Aegis ship,
it has outfitting
...
but FDEV sticks to "you have only unlocked AX weapons for xyz planetary bases" when it comes to seeding AX weapons

If I was Aegis I wouldn't worry about shielding the megaships, I would just make sure they were able to support a large number of smaller anti-thargoid ships that CAN deal with the shutdown. Hitting a carrier with an emp doesn't do you much good if you have 10 or 20 immune ships that are now coming to to kick your asp.

Although knowing fdev I wouldn't be surprised if these ships are the next victim of Thargoid Thursday.

I'd say the stage is set for a surprise Thargoid mothership unveiling...so AEGIS had finally got tired of it's stations being target practice and deployed its own Flight Operation Carriers that can jump. Question is can they jump at all being mass-locked by a Thargoid mothership?

But I'm still unclear of the mobility issue being a key differentiator between, say Orbis starports and megaships. Jacques--being a starport--has quite effectively "relocated" to what is now known as Colonia a while ago. Those giant thrusters are far oversized to be just for orbital station-keeping corrections.
