AFK Farming

Greetings,

Away from the keyboard. Yes, it is legal in ED. Get it right and a player can sleep or go out to buy fast food and upon returning 26 more ships have been killed. But it takes a lot of work to do this. Designing the ship, stacking missions with local systems, and if your ship or a fighter hits a good guy after sleeping you will wake up to a rebuy screen. I wonder what happens if I lose the Internet connection on a rebuy screen...

My Type-10 Defender build will do it's thing in a low REZ. Something more aggressive I'll have to take the helm. My goal is to get my NPC pilot up from Dangerous to Elite. Then maybe with Odyssey our NPC crews will have something more to do.

Flying this ship in Open mode? No problem. With a wing of three PvPers taking out my shields with torpedoes and another one targeting my power plant I still have 15 seconds to get away per being a massive hull tank. No joy. Meanwhile a 'noob' PvPer will have issues with my nine turreted lasers. You can fly this ship anywhere...but very slowly!

Regards

Some players go to the trouble to KOS for using a docking computer, but it's fine when they use pip macros or when their own ship fights for them.

I personally despise afk farming, macros and other forms of DIY botting, so that's well-deserved in my eyes.

You will be branded a "rebuy logger".

The builds I have seen for the T10 to do AFK farming cost from 600mil+ or so. In a low res, how many hours of gameplay would it take to make back the investment, never mind to actually start making money? And now that this is getting too much publicity it will get nerfed somehow. Even a recent youtube video on the subject said they expect the PC to get a non AFK check soon, I guess the consoles already have that.

LOL! :)
Rebuy or logout/login has nothing to to with AFK farming. I can manually land every ship in the game but the Type-10 with that whale tale scrapes the mail slot every time.
I'll work on it.

KOS often spelled COS is a Greek island, part of the Dodecanese island chain in the southeastern Aegean Sea. Other than that I have no idea what you are talking about.

It is part of the ED game play and if the Frontier Devs had a problem with it they would have nerfed it long ago, It takes a lot of work and game experience to pull this off. But maybe you are right I should of never posted about it. Players looking for instant credits won't find them here.

I kind of wondered if this mightn't be an early April Fool, but if it was true, it opened up the possibility of using the T10 as a trading ship that could also kick tail, even in the hands of an indifferent dogfighter, or someone whose persona is of finding dogfights below them. So I worked on the build, and it only really started to come together when I got the fighter and NPC.

Cost is secondary, but nerfing aside, in the long game, it could pay for itself, with smart stacking.

the problem there is with your set up.. Think about other systems, anywhere pirates spawn, & think of places cops don't spawn etc. and you will have cracked the AFK exploit which i wont repeat here because its stupid, works also in the cutter / corvette / conda, you can also do it in the Krait / python etc. if you know how to build a ship properly.

this has been going on for a long time for both NPC crew rank and also CMDR Combat rank, the only way to fix this is to reduce HP bloat and module stacking. The survivability of some of the larger ships make it too easy to conjure up AFK builds, and non of that will change anytime soon so looks like its here to stay.

regarding CR/hr its slow yes (in comparisons to cr/hr live play), but 1 month of afk farming is FC territory. remember this is AFK credits....

Using a Corvette or a multi-crew Krait Mk II ship build is fun playing with others but AFK lets my NPC crew to advance while I don't have to do hours of combat doing it.

That’s irrelevant. Most players that are at the level of being able to create such a build have way more than 600m credits in the bank with nothing to spend it on so it’s not even really considered an investment. They don’t care about even making it back as there’s plenty more where that came from.

The goal (in this case) is apparently to get their NPC crew to Elite and if there was a button to buy that XP (even with a billion credits) they’d probably happily spend it.

In this case you are right except I wouldn't spend a billion credits. With my Type-10 in a low REZ my AI pilot at Dangerous gains maybe 1 percent after 20 ship kills. That's pretty slow. If I want to speed it up I have to take the helm in more dangerous places. Going to medium REZ advances my AI pilot faster at the cost of losing some fighter ships. Chaff is used a lot so switching to forward fire on the turrets is required. The Type-10 targeting and maneuverability isn't designed for this. Still my shield and hull tanking never drops so just wait for the chaff to end then fire away watching the enemy's hull drop fast!

As for credits it can be pretty lucrative AFTER you bring in your Python and Cutter doing cargo missions to get allied with a dozen factions offering massacre missions. Then each one will pay up to 40 million credits times 10 stacking them. That is my trader viewpoint. Players aggressive in combat and don't care about their notoriety will probably do a lot better.

Nor do I consider this an exploit per all the effort and cost to make it work. One could argue mining LTDs and Void Opals was an exploit which was a lot simpler with greater rewards. If someone figures out how to make a profit using a Fleet Carrier is it an exploit or just a player who figured it out? I think that the word exploit is used too much on the Forum versus players being creative but that's just me.

This thread brings back memories.
There was a time many years ago when one could build a Anaconda to survive a High Combat zone while Afk never mind a Low Rez site!
Early Combat zones in Elite never had a finish line and would go on indefinitely while you were present.
What gave you the ability to survive was the presence of Capital ships.
Providing your ship was fully A rated (in the days before engineering) you could park your ship on the nose of a Capital ship and let your Turrets rack up kills .
The Capital ships would always finish off the enemy before your shields took more damage than they could restore so you stayed alive all night long if you so choose.

Fly Safe
CMDR Q!!!!

Tbh, I only use it to earn my weekly ARX if I'm not free to play. The credits are an afterthought, the engineering mats are also nice I guess.

I love it! Do you have a Sidewinder build for the same thing?!

Wow.. gives me the idea of a CMDR account that only did AFK kills and made it to elite. Slow, but if they were logged in 24/7 for a year it would add up versus playing a few hours a day. A weekend of exploits to buy/outfit, get Elite in Explorer/Trade, and then park it.. a n00b could have triple elite and zero experience.

Wouldn’t you want bi-weaves on that thing? Seems like you’d want it to regen quickly between fights…
