Can AFM units repair something like say, thrusters, while under attack? I've had mine targeted trying to escape and all the shielding in the universe won't help if you're a sitting duck. Personally, I go for the power plant so and AFM unit is rendered useless

AFM can't work on an active module. You have to mark it for repair (a diagonal line is shows in the module checkbox). The module is switched off during the repair.
