AFM vs Ship Reboot

Never tried a ship reboot until today. After the latest update note, which says to do a reboot if something is not right - everything was ok, but I tried it anyway.

So, a reboot is much like an automated AFM. And I happens to have AFM on board and is doing a long travelling mission (no station for at least a few hundred jumps) - so I can't take AFM out to try a reboot without it.

Can a reboot/repair took place without AFM on board ?

Edit : corrected AFD to AFM

Yes you can. Reboot will only repair broken modules (i.e. at 0%) to bring up to 1%. So they'll work, but they may fail constantly.

Also, reboot works well if your shields are down, as that'll bring them up again (to 50% iirc?).

The AFM will repair modules back to 100% (apart from the PP and the AFM itself), removing annoying module failures that can get irritating (weapon not firing, FSD not spooling up).

Edit - just to clarify, I wouldn't call the reboot/repair = automated AFM. It'll reinstate your basic ship functions to the bare minimum - for example, without sensors you can't dock, no thrusters no movement, etc.

Reboot/repair cannibalizes intact modules to partially repair critical destroyed modules.

You do not need an AFMU to use reboot/repair, but I recommend against relying on reboot/'repair if you don't have to as it tends to preferentially cannibalize the powerplant

Interesting, didn't know this.

Thanks for the info.

I was hoping (everything else is 100% except PP) a reboot may repair PP.. now that knowing a reboot prefers to cannibalize it !!
