Ship Builds & Load Outs AFMU: Need cargo space for ammo?

Have a DBX all fitted out as an explorer.
Due to limited internals I have a choice between an SRV or a AFMU.
Normally carry SRV but tried a AFMU as a test and found I couldn't buy ammo for it. I also have no cargo space.

Do I need available cargo space to buy AFMU ammo?

Synthesis not cargo space, just carry the right materials..... Having said that I had two AFMUs for my Palin trip and never used either of them.

Obviously I was not aware you couldn't buy "ammo" for this equipment and had to make (synthesize) it. Guess that ends the experiment and with the SRV scanner still not fixed. *Sigh*

Seems kind of odd though and apparently another example of FD's penchant to "make work."

I believe you buy ammo for the AMFU in the same way you buy ammo for weapons, in that you can refill it in the resupply screen but you cannot carry extra re-loads aboard your ship. So you either refill it at a base, or as mentioned above craft your own refill via synthesis.

Well, buying ammo for it, like a regular weapon, was not an option when I tried.
The actual line was "redded out" and a no go.

You can definitely buy ammo for the AFMU. If the restock option cannot be selected, you were probably in a station without that facility.

Thanks but I would be very surprised if that was the issue.
It's a full blown high tech station (Chi Orionis) chock full of ships and every module imaginable plus it lists "Restock" among its services.

I must presume, at this point, I made some error or maybe a bug of some type.

Did you try to go under "Advanced Maintenance" -> "ReStock"? The restock button on the first page does not work for all things (like limpets).

In fact I didn't even try from the main screen.
