Africa Extension DLC

I have seen both Dromadery Camel and Bactrian Camel, but i guess Bactrian is far more common. same with tigers, the only tigers i've seen in zoos were siberian and sumatran, but I'm totally ok with bengal. While we have Black Wildebeest in my local zoo, i've never seen blue wildebeest ( but i still would enjoy it in-game)

Now I wonder if there are any wild Bactrian Camels in Captivity 🤔🐫

I think Beijing has kept them but I have a feeling they no longer do. Maybe somewhere in China I don’t know of but off the top of my head, no there aren’t any wild Bactrian camels in captivity.

Ok, thanks. Just wondered because they aren't even listed on Zootierliste.de. Maybe it's because they are so rare. If they would live in Captivity they would look different enough to be included in Planet Zoo and I really like how they look

The wild bactrian camel is critically endangered and not far away from going extinct. There are one or two zoos in China, which are keeping them as part of a conservation programme, but most of the wild bactrian camel population is divided into different nature reserves.

I personally like an Africa DLC. Probaly after N/A - Europe and/or Asia.

I do believe that they should include both rhino's. However, I think they should add one in a dlc and one in the free update. For example Black Rhino free update and the White in the DLC. Cus they are both iconic animals. Both Rhino's in the same dlc (including indian in the normal version) would feel like a bit too much. Like not really worth for the value. However, giving away one for free and one at the dlc. Would make a lot of players happy (or at least I hope haha).

Personally agree with the preference for Amur Leopard but the Big 5 argument is a good one.
I'd be happy if Frontier will go for completing the Big 5 of Africa, before any other species.

I also would be happy if they completed the Shy 5.

What's the shy 5? Wait let me guess... are giraffes, zebras, and cheetahs on that list? (I always wondered why cape buffalo were considered more worthy of the Big 5 list than giraffes or cheetahs)

Interesting... at one point the Vacouver Zoo (Canada, my local zoo actually, though sadly a rather boring zoo) had both dromedaries and bactrians. They were in two different habitats near each other.

The big 5 refers to the animals that most people think of when they think of African wildlife.
Also, the term “big five” was a term coined by big game hunters (disgusting really) in the late 1800’s. Basically, these animals were considered the most dangerous to hunt on foot and the most prized.

Thankfully today, the big five typically refers to the animals most people want to see on a Safari (Of course, giraffes and cheetahs are on that list too)

the big five are:

Lions
Leopards
Elephants
Rhinos
Cape Buffalo

Animals that include this DLC idea:

Leopard
Black/White Rhinocero
Nile Crocodile
Baboon
Meekrat
Honey Badger
Black mamba

If we get a leopard, I'd prefer the Amur leopard. African leopards aren't that common in zoos, and aren't that endangered either.

Personally I'd also rather avoid another crocodile. We already have the saltwater crocodile and the gharial. If we ever get another crocodilian, I think the American alligator is the only one we still need to complete the 'zoo collection'.

Definitely want an African rhinoceros and meerkat, though. Both staples, both really ought to have been in the base game.
I like this group, but I do have to agree with the below comment, Black or white Rhinos, 100%, kind of a big missing piece for Africa, along with the Baboon (Olive or hamadryas, possibly Gelada, but I would prefer one of the other two) and Meerkats, but Amur Leopards would make more sense for me. I think if we got another African Crocodilian (or any other crocodilian species), one of the smaller species like African Dwarf Croc would be fun, especially in a future DLC/Expansion where our zoos may not have a ton of space left for new animals (easier to slip a smaller animal between exhibits).

Definatley need a few more species from Africa just to round out the missing species/niches.

for sure, I was asking about the "Shy Five" though. Apparently the Shy Five are the meerkat, the aardvark, the porcupine, the aardwolf and the bat-eared fox.

Makes sense that it started as a hunting thing. I still think, if it really is "what most people think of when they think of African wildlife," they should change cape bufffalo to giraffe. Weirdly all the "five" lists I could find don't even include giraffes, cheetahs, or hippos.

I had similar choices; I remember my "How would you do DLC?" list, I chose white rhino, meerkat, baboon, and red river hog for African DLC. Then I put fennec fox and secretary bird in a "deserts and savannah" pack, and the amur leopard in an "alpine and tundra" pack.

That's why I mentioned it. Shy 5 was mentioned on discord - googled it and was a very interesting list.
Like to see 2 or 3 make it in the game :D

Africa is well represented, but I still would like to see a black or white rhino. I think that more desert type species would be nice, since we only have two right now. It's hard to make a good African desert section with two creatures. For exhibits, I think that Gaboon viper, green and/or black mamba, and a cobra of some sort would all be good exhibit picks.

I always struggle with picking exhibit animals for wishlists.

For instance, I'd love a cobra, but I'd also love a chameleon, but there are also more invertebrates I'd like (giant African millipede for one).
