This is mainly a repost from the DLC18 thread. Given how late we are into things, I'd imagine it'd be too late to change anything, and realistically Players could make their own pretty easily in the future, but here's some interesting species we've talked about.
In terms of Oceanian candidates, Blue Triangle/Common Bluebottle looks nice, 5.5-7.5cm wingspan, ranges from India to Japan, to Eastern Australia (Queensland & NSW), or maybe the Tailed Emperor (pics 2 & 3) a 7.5-8.5cm Australian endemic, or the Forest Ringlet (pics 4 & 5) a 4-6.4cm New Zealand endemic
African candidates might be the African Map Butterfly, 4.2-5.5cm wingspan from Africa & Madagascar, the Pearl Emperor (pics 2 & 3), 6.5-9cm from Arabia to South Africa, and Yellow Pansy, 4-6cm from Sub-saharan Africa & South to Southeast Asia.
In terms of other butterflies, the Apollo has been mentioned, being a 6.2-9.5cm wingspan species, primarily from Alpine regions throughout Eurasia. Queen Alexandra's Birdwing is the largest in the world, at 25-28cm, from New Guinea, but also has dimorphism (pic 2 is female, pic 3 is male). The Common Rose is the national butterfly of Singapore, at 7-9.5cm wingspan. That and the Blue Clipper (8-9.5cm) are found in the Singapore Airport Butterfly house, and both are found throughout South & Southeast Asia.
In terms of moths that can clap their wings when resting like butterflies, the Madagascan Sunset Moth has been mentioned, being a 7-9cm wingspan species endemic to Madagascar.
