After 5 days of playing...I am again..at ZERO...nervous berakdown coming in

I was just telling my wife about my experiences...and well..I better not say what she said....

Anyway, today a while back (I talked about that already) I lost my docking computer, cargo and everything due to a glitch...so I had to start at ZERO again.

Spent several hours starting new with starter SW, no docking computer (of course)..trying to make back my money.

It wouldn't be such a big deal jumping a few times from Azasomething to I Bootis...the problem is things DRAG and of course the rather frequent freezes which can happen when you jump.

Now, I do my final approach to I Bootis, Pirates pop up. I am panicking and must have disabled my shields for a second..anyway my ship exploded faster than I could blink.

Again..EVERYTHING lost, cargo, SW etc...

After 4 (or 5?) days of playing the Beta I am AGAIN at ZERO, starting over with a SW since I cannot afford to buy back the old ship. (When you start out with 1000 CR it's obviously not exactly easy to always keep 1600 backup credits to be able to buy back the ship,.....how can I make money in trades..I must fill my cargo and make some profit...things take long enough as it is...)

I feel now I wasted the entire Sunday, I have never played a game where it's possible to get entirely "wiped out" like that and having to start over from zero.

Yes I am ranting, yes it's a beta....but still....

I think there needs to be a change in the way insurance works.

It should be more similar to EVE online, and, well, real insurance.

You shouldn't have to pay your insurance at the time of death in order to get your stuff back, you should be paying it either when you purchase your ship or anytime thereafter that you feel like insuring it.

EVE also allows you to choose what level of insurance to buy.

You can pay more to insure the entire value of your ship, or pay less and get less coverage.

Regardless, the bottom line is that insurance should not be paid upon destruction of a ship, but rather beforehand, to insure that when your ship DOES get destroyed, you are protected.

That is by game design and should not change.

If you put all your eggs in one basket, then turn off your own shields what do you want to ahppen. The game to give it all back to you?

I feel for you, it's deeply wrong and basically a cruel set-up.

As far as I am aware you will be able to put yourself into debt to pay the excess charge in the final version. Which is some thing.

And of course then the cash for credits when it gets implemented will get you back on your feet trading.

Which is a good thing, otherwise people will start having nervous breakdowns over silly game currency. God forbid.

Uh! It is a beta

I feel your pain OP. Yeah, its a beta, but stuff like this isnt fun. The 'eggs in one basket' argument is invalid when you get screwed over by unfair dynamics or bugs

I so want to play more myself but I dont want to waste my time right now on unbalanced or glitchy code - this would only serve to dampen my enthusiasm right now :(

But what did you expect? You have taken the risk to buy that much cargo that you could not afford insurance in order to have larger profit.

It's sad that some people are looking at the time they've played the game as "wasted" if they end up losing things. That implies that you're not enjoying that time. Maybe you're trying too hard to get to some point where you feel you have to be to say you "win".

I look at this game as more of a journey. And in doing so, I'm not trying to take everything at once, I'm not trying to rush to get the next level of stuff. I'm stopping and looking at things along the way, I'm trying out new spots, not because of a mission or a good trade route (usually I'm not carrying anything), but just because it's there.

Stop trying to grind, and you won't get caught in the wheels. Pick up a mission here and there, play around with trading, not to maximize profits, but to give a reason to go to a new spot.

And don't spend it all in one spot. If you have no credits when you jump out, don't act surprised when bad things eventually happen.

It's sort of doing that. Your ship is automatically insured. What you're paying (or not able to pay for in this case) is the deductible to get your replacement stuff. And you can choose to not replace it all now.

here's a tip to kickstart your progress if it happens again:

the short seller:

if you've just started (or restarted) and only have 1k, keep an eye on the bulletin board for 'deliver this' missions for high value cargo and long delivery times.

they give you the cargo so all you do is sell it at the market and use the cash to fill your hold up. once you've earned a bit you can buy another of the item you sold and make your way to the delivery destination to complete the job before it times out and you get fined.

also while you trade keep an eye out for said item on the cheap, i had a tonne of harvesters that i sold for 1900 and replaced somewhere else for 1600 so not only did i make a profit from using the cash to up my trades, i made 300 extra on the mission as well

The solution to such a problem is simple, as already stated. Never spend yourself broke. Always have reserve cash so that you can't be wiped out by a mishap.

Unless you encounter a bug that wipes out your cash account.

Im sorry it feels like that to you but ... I find trading very easy to make money and i now have a hauler so im making more fast .
Interdictions ..RUN 4 pips to engines and boost twice then jump .I havent died yet in Beta
I play a few hours a day and now have hauler and 70k in bank .I ALWAYS make sure i have 10% for the insurance excess.
Never used a Docking Computer maybe when i get a massive ship but in a Sidey or Hauler why?
Now bugs ,yes can be a right pain but thats what you are here to do Find them and report them .
Lastly it is NOT a game yet :)

I can't get it.. It's really so easy to evade those interceptions. Frontier has given the combat missions to practice in advance. By then you should know how to distribute power tk engine, how to boost.. Sorry absolutely no understanding for this. Never had this problem myself. Practice guys..

Never play game where you can lose everything if only thing you want is to progress. Elite is harsh mistress and usually it makes you forget not put all eggs in one basket.

best way to start is to use short range light cargo missions, they give 3-5k and have no investment, so you can take other cargo with you, just make sure you know where you are heading before accepting mission ;)
