After Oculus rift.

Can anyone help please.

I play Elite dangerous on the Oculus Rift, but have decided now to move to an HP reverb G2.

My question is: I presume I will have to buy the game again via Steam, but if I do, have I got to start from scratch as a new user and loose all I have obtained?

You certainly won't need to start from scratch, just log on with your existing account on the new install.
As for needing to buy it again I can't help you. My copies all come from the FDEV store and I'm still using my rift. Maybe trying asking in the VR forum as I'm sure others will have switched brand of HMD in the past.

I have switched from Rift to HP (Oculus to Steam) and was able to download a Steam copy of the game for free using a key provided by Frontier.
I originally purchased the game from the Frontier Store website, so not sure if purchasing though Oculus is different in some way.

Try this:

1) Go to the Frontier Store website and log in using your Frontier credentials.
2) Click on the little people icon in the upper right. (2nd icon in from the right top, labeled "account dashboard")
3) on the left side menu of the next page, find "Partner Keys" and click on it.
4) You should see a listing of game keys for different platforms. (steam & oculus rift)

Hopefully you'll see keys for both Oculus and Steam.

IIRC correctly I had to request a steam key from the same website, I believe I did this by clicking on Elite in "My downloadable products" in the same menu as "Partner Keys", and requesting it. But I get an error today when clicking anything in the list, looks like a website problem.

Please come back to this thread and tell us how you get on

I'm thinking of going for an HP Reverb G2 as well, to get away from the Facebook log in. I won't have the same hassle running the game seeing as mine was purchased during the Kickstarter, but I'd like your thoughts on the headset once you use it with Elite

Thanks for that. I won't be buying a G2 for a little while, but I will report back once I have done so.

I've got a G2, and I can thoroughly recommend it. :) Running on Ryzen 5800X with Radeon 6800. Will be getting a 6800 XT as soon as there is availability.

A few teething issues on set-up, but nothing unexpected for a new machine. Disabled legacy USB support in the BIOS and have had no USB issues at all since then. I am getting 90FPS fairly consistently at native headset resolution and all ultra settings. It drops a bit in some places (I only notice when watching a stream back and spotting the FPS counter - I rarely notice while playing). The clarity is simply stunning (and I upgraded from an Odyssey+, which was pretty good itself).

I second this; also an original KS backer that has an Oculus but with the recent "get an FB account" edict am looking for another option - will follow this thread since I'll be looking for another VR vendor.

Also, I have to kill steam in order to play ED since the Stream client (I assume) expects that I want to launch ED via Steam, which I never want to since I too have not yet got a steam key. So this would be to (virtual) birds with one (virtual) stone, so to speak.

I bought from Frontier, and I use the Samsung O+. No steam purchase is needed.

I just open WMR, then Steam VR, then ED. Easier then shooting up n00b-a-condas .
