After Odyssey's release, are you looking towards other games to scratch that itch?

Although no other game out there is quite like Elite IMO, are you willing to overlook that fact to try something new or close?

As a console-only player I haven't had a chance to experience Odyssey, but keep up with the lackluster offerings via this forum, other internet places, and youtube of course. I've felt that I've hit a spot in Horizons where I've reached endgame and the only reason I play is because of my Squadron and how they incorporate BGS into their gameplay. To be honest, I'm not even sure I'm looking forward to Odyssey on consoles. I want to believe it would be a fresh, new, and complete experience, but I'm a bit skeptical. I'm also getting a new PC as of the end of this week (Mainly for DCS). I would love to experience ED in VR, but am not hopeful for the lack of investment in it when it comes to ED's future. Also, since there's no cross-progression in ED, I have to think long and hard about going through the grind (a 3rd time) to reach where I would be in consoles. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours spent there.

So to my point, I think I'm going to give Star Citizen a try when my new PC arrives. I have been throwing hate that game's way for a very long time now, even when my favorite streamers reported on the game (Thinking back to when The Pilot started doing SC ship reviews). Fast forward to watching CMDR's Will and Kate today, I was surprised to see her playing SC. Very surprised, and I don't know why. When I watched, there was one portion of the video that convinced me to give SC a try as she described it, and it's word for word as she lands on a planet and gets up from her pilot's seat.

"From an Elite Commander's perspective, everything about this sequence is incredible. From the seamless descent with no glide phase, to the richly detailed and beautiful environment, the wind, the snow, the trees, to walking down that ramp and actually stepping off it was quite a moment I have to admit. And if I'm honest, it's the moment that really sold me on Star Citizen and what it promises."

Hearing her say that and watching her do it gave me the same feels as when I was starting up ED for the first time and thinking of the promises that it could deliver as well. Thanks Kate, I think I'm going to give it a go. I'll still be here for EDO's console release, but we'll see if one or the other keeps me engaged.

Anyone else feel the same way about another game?

I like flying a spaceship in VR that isn't a corridor shooter where I can land on planets (been waiting since First Encounters - 1995 released), so still nothing on the horizon for me unfortunately. I played X4 and it's great; flight model, exploration, 0G EVA, shooty bits, mine, walk on platforms, build an empire etc etc etc but no planet landings or VR...
If SC ever gets to the point where it adds VR, I'll jump ship immediately.

My first try at MMO style play was with this game (Horizons). After those experiences, I'll never spend a dime on any MMO-only game. I've even lost the desire to fire up elite in any mode now. So back to X4 and my flight sims.

ED is definitely not representative of what MMO games are like in any way that I would use it as a comparison for those. It's like saying Sam's club cola is gross so I'm never trying Coke or Pepsi.

Yes, but unfortunately there are no other space MMOs that can remotely. Like many, I really want pvp gameplay but.... they isn't anything out there currently

It's not space but you could do worse than look at Escape from Tarkov if you are into FPS pvp.

Its brutally hard, deep, irritatingly addictive. I've played little else in 18 months. It's going into a new wipe soon also so everyone gets character zero'd so a great time to play.

Highly recommend. But bring big boy brain.

No, what ED told me was that I didn't really need its core features. No MP, no huge galaxy, no limited aircraft in space FM. I take the best it offered and that is decent proc gen and look for something else. Right now, I'd like a space RPG. Kinda like Mass Effect, but not as corridor-styled. But not like Andromeda - open worlds are not easy and space open worlds inflate the required number maybe beyond feasible. There is a reason Outer Worlds was just a couple of worlds.

The next time I want exploration I will probably fire up Space Engine again.

I've been considering this also. Its been a couple of years since I last DLd the free Spaceengine. At that time, flying the spaceships was torture. I could never get it to work but using "GoTo" sure worked. I went to several other galaxies after meandering all over the Milky Way for hours and hours. X4 is scratching my itch for space flight atm and playing a little of NMS and Mass Effect: A has kept me busy but I'm looking for other games to try out.

I tried the free version out and was impressed. I bought the steam version when it came out there about a year ago after chatting with one of the devs about the future of Space Engine and learning they may eventually lease the completed engine out to game makers.

Twenty bucks isn't much but happy to help out and show support for something so massive.

When you want astronomy based exploration without a game layer it really is a wonderful experience. People are even modding ships and stations into the game which is interesting.

I know the steam version offers high resolution packs for our own solar system which is something I haven't checked out yet but I am looking forward to. I think last time I had checked the page they were working on comets.
