Although no other game out there is quite like Elite IMO, are you willing to overlook that fact to try something new or close?
As a console-only player I haven't had a chance to experience Odyssey, but keep up with the lackluster offerings via this forum, other internet places, and youtube of course. I've felt that I've hit a spot in Horizons where I've reached endgame and the only reason I play is because of my Squadron and how they incorporate BGS into their gameplay. To be honest, I'm not even sure I'm looking forward to Odyssey on consoles. I want to believe it would be a fresh, new, and complete experience, but I'm a bit skeptical. I'm also getting a new PC as of the end of this week (Mainly for DCS). I would love to experience ED in VR, but am not hopeful for the lack of investment in it when it comes to ED's future. Also, since there's no cross-progression in ED, I have to think long and hard about going through the grind (a 3rd time) to reach where I would be in consoles. Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours spent there.
So to my point, I think I'm going to give Star Citizen a try when my new PC arrives. I have been throwing hate that game's way for a very long time now, even when my favorite streamers reported on the game (Thinking back to when The Pilot started doing SC ship reviews). Fast forward to watching CMDR's Will and Kate today, I was surprised to see her playing SC. Very surprised, and I don't know why. When I watched, there was one portion of the video that convinced me to give SC a try as she described it, and it's word for word as she lands on a planet and gets up from her pilot's seat.
"From an Elite Commander's perspective, everything about this sequence is incredible. From the seamless descent with no glide phase, to the richly detailed and beautiful environment, the wind, the snow, the trees, to walking down that ramp and actually stepping off it was quite a moment I have to admit. And if I'm honest, it's the moment that really sold me on Star Citizen and what it promises."
Hearing her say that and watching her do it gave me the same feels as when I was starting up ED for the first time and thinking of the promises that it could deliver as well. Thanks Kate, I think I'm going to give it a go. I'll still be here for EDO's console release, but we'll see if one or the other keeps me engaged.
Anyone else feel the same way about another game?
