After the Cyperpunk 2077 debacle, I hope there's a beta for Odyssey on base consoles

While Cyperpunk appears to run....Ok (?) on PC, its a hot mess on consoles (especially Xbox One and PS4), with bugs galore, crashes galore, and performance so sub-par, Sony pulled the game from the Playstation store while MS are giving refunds to anyone who requests them.

We've seen pre-Alpha footage of Odyssey on PC and it looks impressive, but I'm hoping we also get a console beta so people (especially on XB1 and PS4 featuring those ancient Jaguar CPU cores) have the chance to see how well it runs before deciding to buy.

Just to be clear, I'm not expecting Odyssey to run as well on base consoles (or even Xbox Series S|X and PS5) compared to PC, but it would be great for console owners to have a beta on the hardware they're going to be playing on.

I did not know this? how do I do that? found and done

I read on here somewhere that whatever you're running the game on now will be able to run Odyssey, given that I think it will run as good as current game does now
would like a beta though, or even a demo just to see how it runs, that could scratch the itch of experiencing Odyssey as a new CMDR and possibly save my alt from the chop

.. the history of betas & ED (i mean ED not to be confused with ED) is people moan about the balance, or push another agenda rather than look for bugs so we end up with bugs in live and the beta was a pointless process?

im not sure beta's solve much to be honest.

e-mail x-box store support explaining you purchased a game not fit for purpose and state you want a refund as per your consumer rights.

“Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content should be of a satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described, My rights have been breached because the digital content you sold me is faulty. I would like you to provide a refund.”

Given Odyssey's slated to run the same as current systems, requiring no change to system requirements, I don't see there being a specific need for this at all.

By mentioning the Asp Scout this counts as anti Asp Scout content.

Back on topic, I hope FD are learning from the C2077 mess because the spate of refunds (and the willingness of the platforms to refund so generously) has set a precedent.

Regarding the Scout - Ok, I'll leave that ship alone. For now. ;)

Yeah, I think gaming studios will think twice before pushing out seriously bugged AAA content in future. We know development is hard and bugs are a fact of life (saying that as a developer), but some of the issues I've seen for Cyperpunk have been on another level, to the point that lawsuits are being deployed against CD Project Red for misleading.....everyone about the state of the game on consoles. It just wasn't ready for release on those platforms.

Some reviewers are also looking pretty stupid now, giving the game high scores before they saw the game on consoles. To be fair, CD Project Red wouldn't let them review the game on consoles.....I wonder why?

I'm sure it will be ok, the Cobra Engine is scalable enough to run Horizons on the base XB1 which some armchair developers around here at the time thought was 'impossible'. Still, with events in the last week regarding Cyperpunk, I thought it would be a good time for expressing interest in a console beta.

was even easier!

logged in and within 10mins a refund had been approved
this is going to ruin CD Projekt

FD would be smart to show EDO running on a base PS4.

CD Rekt really. Its been a studio busting two weeks so far for them.

I feel sorry for the actual developers. To be working on this since 2016, to be asked to crunch and spend time away from their families for months, and to have all their hard work wrecked by the decision from the company leaders to push this product out now god-damnit!

Must be soul-destroying, and after their Xmas break (will they even get one?), its back to bug fixing and applying a level of console optimization which Digital Foundry claims is impssoble to get this thing running at a decent frame rate on XB1 and PS4.

Well I read that they plan two updates for the game in Jan and Feb, so I doubt they get an Xmas free right now.

FD need to really start testing early to make sure it all goes smoothly because the game has changed really as far as digital distribution and expectations. I get they need to balance surprise but even testing a capsule like in beta with limited features would be reassuring.

Its hard to know- the investors are suing the management who (I think) are the ones to blame for being unrealistic and asking too much.

they would have been under pressure by the investors in the 1st place, I get they are suing them but I'd bet 50p the fault lies with em
recon it's time for M$ to come in and save the day with a buyout

think it's time to dump the ps4/xb1 version and concentrate on getting it right on current gen

True, but I think the management got greedy and delusional after the Witcher 3 thinking it made them invincible. It was the management of CDPR creating and cultivating an image of a 'good guy' studio that fooled people into thinking everything was fine (before it all started to come apart).

they would help if they were part of a comprehensive and rigurous qa process. they are just pr gimmick so they don't.

also, ed/odyssey won't receive the level of attention/scrutiny cyberpunk 2077 has, not by a long shot. there will be bugs, people will swallow them and the world will keep spinning, business as usual.

back to topic: what this shows is that pc / console markets can't really be unifiied for high range games. which we knew already, but industry is sometimes just stubborn.

Fdev is known to release buggy updates but I doubt they'll make as large a mess as CDPR did.
Some gameplay shown on base PS4 and Xbox One would be nice though but looking at the meager reveals Fdev give out I doubt it will happen.

On the other hand, Fdev's bug fixing could use a boost, there are still quite the number of bugs that have become a normality in the game, not good at all.
