Great! Been awhile since they crossed the channel - Asterix in Britain (Astérix chez les Bretons 1966). I seem to remember, regarding the thread title, there was a sort of "Tour de France" album too. Was it in that album the Chief (called Majestix where I live) had to go to a health spa due to his overweight problems? The journey itself became a "Tour de France" of the haute cuisine of sorts instead. I recall the scene with a leaf that singles down and lands on the belly of the chief, who is having a nap under a tree after yet another hefty meal. Enough to make him jump up in pain. :D

I have fond memories of Asterix. I grew up with Franco-Belgian comics. Tintin, Asterix, Blake & Mortimer, Lucky Luke etc. Really liked them, been too long since I read any.

your mixing two of them, the one where the chief has to go on a diet is the one where they're looking for vercingetorix's shield i think. it must be " le bouclier arverne"

the "tour de gaule" is started because the romans want to isolate them behind a wall(a silly idea). and to prove they can go everywhere they want they claim they can come back with culinary specialities from all around the country.

Yes, you're right, thanks! Great albums both.

Had to do some research too. One of my favourite albums was Astérix légionnaire (Asterix the Legionary).

i'm sure to have read those two quite a few times. the one with the shield was hilarious, i dont know how it translates in english.
i still have them all in my room, got to pass them to the next generation, along with all the tintin and a few others. quite a lot of memories there.

Sorry for a bit off-topic here but I wanted to ask about another comic from our French and Belgian friends here (Patrick, Nicomak and others). I saw that Blake & Mortimer (Edgar P. Jacobs) got a continuation with other authors taking up the stories. Did anyone read these and if so are they worth buying? Did they stay true to the style and feel of Jacobs?

I think the English majority here on this forum can also appreciate some of these and maybe especially the album "The Yellow M", set in a foggy, early 1950's London. Even the protagonists are British. Dr. Philip Mortimer and Captain Francis Blake.

Sorry, Rollo, but I can not help because I do not know, just the name it seems to me

No problem Patrick, thanks. I will order one or two of the new ones just to see anyway. Seems childhood memories die/fade slow for me. :)
