After to reveal what are your thoughts

I was so excited to get a FC, now after the reveal I must ask myself just why.

1) no Universal Cartographics can be sold so that rules out using one for exploring
2) Why buy Ships or Modules off FC and pay a tariff when one can go to LI Yong-Rui and get a 15% discount and no tariff or go to Shinrarta Dezhra where all is in stock and 10% discount.
3) when selling a Commodity like Low Temp Diamonds we look for the station that sells for highest price, don't see a FC competing in Commodity Market.
4) if you park your FC in the Borann System and you load up on LTD and can sell them at your FC or any FC for the galactic average price of 550.000 credits per ton or fly 6 jumps and get 1,2000,000 per ton, what would do.

There over 50,000 stations in the bubble and I have only been to maybe a couple of hundred of them In 3 years, I just can’t see FC competing with them

I just wanted an mobile base I could jump around and do some Fleet Maintenance & Exploring sell some Cartographic data without all the upkeep.

Fdve has given us more of a store front instead to a personal mobile base.

This is going down more like Multi-Crew

Decent BGS potential for pmfs who become hostile to a minor faction maybe?

good potential for piracy smuggling

powerplay potential is limited by powerplay’s own issues.

Because commodities aren’t used to craft anything, like ships or modules, and can’t be produced like agriculture products to offset maintenance costs, the commodities market, outfitting and shipyard seem underwhelming.

no universal cartographics is bad as the asp instagram fans are testifying currently.

thargoid fob maybe?

I think although it can be played solo these are really ships for groups of players to work together.

I suspect operation IDA will like them as they can park a carrier near a system with a large amount of a hard to get commodity, and then move the carrier to the station being repaired that requires said commodity, before then having a mass unload into the station.

Emergent gameplay opportunities for fleet carriers of pirates to have a convenient docking location close to mining hot spots to not only sell their stolen wares but also restock and repair.

Bounty hunters could also be attracted to said pirate carriers.

Denial of certain low volume goods in specific areas of space by buying up the entire stock and placing it on carriers.

With no Universal Cartographics on the FC the entire feature has become worthless to me.

My thoughts after the stream are that it all was a huge waste of dev time. I don't really see any viable use for them other than credit sinks for rich players who have nothing else to spend their billions on just for kicks.

Missing one feature is regrettable, but if the ONLY THING it would be good to you for is as a mobile UC then there’s bigger issues.

I'd like to be able to store (not sell, that's too far) cartographics but beside that, running a profitable carrier looks like am interesting challenge. End game stuff as promised. I like what I've seen.
I Totally agree, but we need to get commodities at wholesale and able to sell under the current station prices to get sales, I don's see Fdev allowing that to happen.

So, I spend a few jumps getting away from competing markets in the bubble - and pull my trouser leg up, stick out my thumb to passing pilots and hope to sell them 10 million credits worth a week to keep afloat?

Why drop the link to squadrons? A small group of players who like to explore together, get a carrier - are able to use it as a base for multiple types of missions, mining ops, local exploration etc. (perhaps with new things to do in the next season). They can refit, repair, and then jump together to the next place. But we are denied our choice of game play.

In the 23rd century, and another galaxy (Mr Roddenberry's), people do do things for no financial reward - but to be part of the bigger adventure - not so in this galaxy in 3306. My crew would work for nothing, only demanding good food, rip-roaring times in the depths of space, and of course - the weekly round of Pirate Bingo TM

Please rethink this Frontier - a simple (?) system where squadron members can transfer money to the Squadron Leader who can make a Fleet Carrier purchase on their behalf - if they leave the squadron, the FC stays in the squadron. Decisions about decommissioning can come down to a vote. FC Crew members who don't demand payment, but only perhaps a share of rewards gained from selling exploration data (surely Cartographic has to be included in the facilities available aboard a FC).

Such potential - so far seemingly wasted - perhaps the Beta will prove me wrong in all these points. Oh, unless I have 5 billion already I wont even be able to get my head around it from the inside - oh well.

Had just returned to ED following a long break - eager to increase my funds. Guess I'll wait to see what comes in the next big (paid for) update at the end of the year. Been playing since 1984 - would be a shame to have to stop now.

yep, me. I was waiting to see the vision before I really made verbal commitments. unless something changes, I doubt I'll be getting one when they hit the shelf

I was hungry, but then I ate something. Then I got heartburn and regretted what I ate. Now I'm thinking I should lose some weight.

Oh, and fleet carriers don't seem too interesting to me. They seem to be geared towards players that want to play "Ferengi Simulator". I hope I'm sorely mistaken on this, however.

I wonder how many FC will get stranded out in the black. Let’s say you get your FC 20,000 ly’s out in the black. That’s About 40 Jumps and you had to mine at 500 tons per jump that’s 20,000 tons of Tritium. Now if you can mine 100 tons per hour that’s approximately 200 hours of mining.

Now you are way out in the black can’t sell your cartographic date and its costing you a minimum of 10mil a week and so much per jump, it’s costing you a small fortune.

You can’t do a suicide to get back to the bubble

What do you do, many I think many will just leave it behind

Fuel rats gonna have to step their game up

I don't want to deprive anyone of the joy of coming to this realization on their own, but I just can't keep it in the bag any longer.

Fleet Carriers will give us something that has never been within our grasps before. Something huge. Something game changing. Something for explorers.

For the first time ever, from the very distant reaches of our galaxy, far, far away from any other signs of civilization, Commanders will be able to fly around with 100% paint jobs.

You can't put a price on that. Other than 5 billion up front and operating costs, I guess.

My first thought after the stream was,......ugh!!!

A mobile trading station aka lots of management screens.
That's all it is, great for people who like management games but with the best will in me I can't think of why Fdev thougt this was what ED needed.
After two and a half years they come up with a mobile trade/management platform that can't compete with stations.

That new Era is starting to look bleaker by the moment.
All convidence I had in Fdev has dissipated by now.
