again on equipment: kill warrant scanner

I'm still struggling to understand the equipment ratings, today I wanted to purchase a kill warrant scanner and in the station I was docked there were 2 types available, class A and class B. The difference in price was substantial and the class A had also a more than doubled power drain, however the scan time, range and health was exactly the same. So is there any reason to buy the more expensive and power hungry piece of equip? Are there other equipment stats we are not seeing?

The scan ranges are rounded to the nearest 1km, so if you have a cheap scanner and a more expensive one that both have 3km range then actually the cheap one will be 2.5km and the other really 3km.

This is a very good example of poor data in game. There is no real reason to hide this information from an equipment sales screen. It just obfuscates the available information that in any normal case should just be out there for any buyer.

I completely agree - adding the first decimal place would make it so much clearer :)

It is also pain to use with that 10 sec waiting time. It should be changed so that kill warrant data is automatically shown in a normal scan data, as long as you have it installed on your ship.

There I disagree. As it stands, you have a choice between taking the time to scan and risk losing the shot to another ship, or going for a fast kill without the bonus.

I find that by the time the scanner has done its business my lasers have taken out the target's shields. Swap weapon groups then combine lasers with multi cannon.

With the scanner set to secondary I use a switch on my joystick to keep it on until I toggle off.
Simples!

Great idea - plus rep for meerkats

Perhaps it's just my poor luck, but I haven't got any results from using warrant scanner yet during those 10-20 times I have tested it. Clean ships stay clean. So I haven't bothered much to use it.

On the other hand I have noticed that there's now some small bounty I need to redeem from empire or alliance (I'm deeply in Federation space). Does those come as a result of using scanner? Getting extra bounty from those wanted ships?

i read an article and tried it and it worked .. i kw scanned an anaconda in resourses site all hell broke loose i joined in like a scavenger and picked up 126,000 cr distributed around the factions

It should just be a module that runs alongside your scanner. I'd replace my basic discovery scanner with it.

Instead of use up an entire hard point.

Agreed! All the modules need more information specific to their function - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=88955

ps: Personally I don't think we'll see any work done on this area now though to address this problem.

The KWS never turns a clean target wanted. It just shows if the target has bounties in other systems than the one you're currently in.

Are you sure you're using kill warrant scanner correctly ? First, after using KWS go in the "contacts" section of the left pannel. Even if the dude it's clean due the normal ship scanning, if you check that section you'll see all details regarding your target: if he's Wanted, even in another faction system, you'll receive a bounty - but being wanted in the faction system you made the kill.

You have to actually go in and look at the "Contacts" tab to see how much the bounty is after you scan. The main screen will still say "Clean" if they're not wanted in the current system. Not very intuitive, in my opinion. It should show up on the main screen after they are scanned.

they had tool tips for all modules at some point (right before gamma i think) and with some later patch they removed them again...

why they did that i (no one?) knows...
