I want to block you all so I can play in open without fear till I find my feet. (I might unblock you all once I know what I am doing). :):):)

Seriously though. Its got quite salty over there, but to be honest if you buy a game and you want to play it with people blocked then surely that is your concern? After all if you are not getting entertained from your purchase but are getting sad if someone kills you when you don't want anything to do with PvP then should that be your choice? Should it not?

Some people have a real problem with the blocking (although apparently its always been like that). As the trailer says blaze your own trail, not someone elses. I think this is good for "open" personally.

Everyone is a pirate until proven otherwise. The best way to avoid them is solo mode. Groups like Möbius are good, but cannot immediately prevent pirates. How well they police / take action will matter.

For me, I choose solo play just like I had decades ago in the original ;)

I'll probably risk open at least in the early sidewinder days when I don't have much to lose. I guess once I am in mid game where money and ships is in shorter supply I may moderate myself and once I am a billionaire then I won't worry and be in open.

My first few hours I'll probably do solo, but the appeal of playing with others in Open.. IE Multi-Crew/Wings can't be ignored.

I'll say this now, I have every intention of staying in Open throughout. Playing in Solo feels like cheating.
(I might change my mind within a few months but will at least start in Open)

I've played in open most of the time and can honestly say that I've probably been attacked by another player only once. And that was such a spectacular and audacious kill that I actually congratulated the other commander on a job well done. (I was flying a Type 9 through the entry slot of a station when he launched a salvo of missiles at me. I actually exploded within the docking bay. Awesome!)

Yikes.

Get the feel for the game in solo play, but, as soon as you are comfortable with the controls please try open mode.

The thrill that you can encounter another player (if you are flying in the edge of the bubble, you prolly wont), and you have no clue what his intentions are, is amazing. I made friends this way, and enemies.. (ingame enemies)

I have been pirated. It isn't bad. First you are only likely to be pirated on Community Goals. Pirates tend to text you to pull you over and ask for a small amount of cargo. All the pirates I have met have been professional. No one deploys hard points no one gets hurt. It is a good way to meet new friends and 20T per 24 hours isnt a bad toll for a 6 mil cr payout

Open isn't bad at all. That being said I imagine that a good chunk of "new" players on ps4 won't be actually new.

Or, try open straight away with the stock sidewinder and you won't lose anything from little accidents, (ok, maybe a bit of cargo lost, if trading, unless you just stick to data missions to get a feel for it first).

And then you can also decide whether to change the inappropriately placed boost button... ;)

If you do play in Open, get away from the starter systems ASAP. There will be experienced players around looking for easy kills.

Even three or four jumps away is better than nothing.

My Ignorance, but do we know if PS4 players will be sharing the same instance as xBox and PC? Will they have a dedicated PS4 instance?
Are you talking about previous PC and xBox players that will be sufficiently polished as to how the game works to feel that they can pick off newbie PS4 commanders?

Sony's still holding back on Cross-Platform play. Microsoft is game and so are many developers/publishers but its still a long way off.

Slightly off-topic but you can't hear it enough in the beginning-

Remember that jumping to another system ("high-waking") is always better to get away from an aggressor than simply entering supercruise ("low-waking") and you'll be OK.
