AI mission bug?

Not sure if this is intended AI behaviour, the AI is duplicating itself :/

Went mining in T9 to pick up some Osmium for the missiles on my Cutter. Left Deciat & found a nice mining spot at Hip 16607, no issues at all. I also had a mission onboard to bring back 26 tonnes of reactive armour.

On the return journey to Deceit I get a Comms message 'Someone is trying to Sabotage your mission' Am immediately hunted by an Anaconda called 'Denzil', no big deal, my shields are fine but I only have two missile racks on this mining ship.

I spend 30 minutes of playing cat and mouse with this guy over 14 jumps, figure I'll have to fight him since he won't stop following me, manage to hold him off and do some damage, some police Vipers come in to assist with the kill. At this point I have no missiles left, 1 ring of shields, I stay in normal space to recharge the shields (Open play so don't want to risk a weakened ship in Deciat)

2 minutes later Denzil jumps in again and starts blasting my ship, still only two rings and lose shields and some of the reactive armour ! I just killed the guy a few minutes ago.. perform a high wake and now back to square one..

The AI difficulty is not an issue, spawning duplicate ships seems like a clear bug.

It might be a bug, sounds like one. I have definitely noticed that the "source and return" type missions nearly always put an attacker on your tail who follows you until the mission is done, wherever you go. But in the few cases I've killed one it's always been just before I turn in the mission so I have never had one reappear.

PS stacking this type of mission is not advised :)

I had something similair recently, killed the npc then the same one tried to interdict me next jump. Can't remember what the mission was.
Didn't bug report it.

Did you kill the NPC yourself, or did the cops do it?
I appears to me that cop kills dont despawn the enemy NPC following you.

I'll submit a ticket. Managed to get within 11LS from Garay Terminal, interdicted by two noobs in Pythons + a mission Anaconda, looks like the blockade is still going on. These Cmdrs need to learn how to shoot. It's all kicking off today.. Still haven't managed to dock at Garay terminal.

The cops assisted, I fired the last shots.

Edit - If anyone is looking for some action, head to Deciat, looks like Cmdrs are out in force interdicting anything that moves.

Yes it sounds as if Deciat is the place to go, might go take a look tonight, thanks for the tip off 777.

PS. I hasten to add, not to grief, but to try help beat the blockade!!

hat exactly the same twice, when i was still in the bubble. e.g. assassin spawning again after killing him. i guess it has something to do with a spawn probabality in time, while the killed isn't "registered" yet, which it does on h-jump. bug report is in order!

But the warning mail sometimes says "Kill "NPCwhateverweirdnamecomestoyourmind" for xxx Cr (1/2) as some kind of counter... Maybe that's the problem here, so you have to kill that NPC twice !? Kind of gamebreaking though...

Currently it is just a Python & FDL, easy to get past if you emergency drop or fly wide arcs. No idea if they are camping Farseer Inc, Garay terminal is clear. I'll be on later tonight to help with hunting these guys.

The big issue is that these guys will just respawn and carry on killing the defenceless, doesn't matter how many times you kill them. The whole thing needs a lot of work, the military or police should be hunting these guys, constantly interdicting them. As it stands the local security & bounty hunters do nothing.

I think the on H-Jump is the issue. He came back in the next system with a different name, I restocked on missiles and killed him. Haven't been troubled since.

That just denotes the wing size, the main NPC and their henchmen. Although, in my experience, they rarely all spawn at one time.

In my experience, the (1/2) means that you'll see one NPC come after you, then if you kill that one, the next one will come after you. When you kill one, the mission updates to show your reward.

Is it possible for OP that you had (1/2) and they both had the same name? lol...just a thought.

If that holds true, that would confirm the suspicion I've been having quite some time now, that following enemy NPCs spawn in EVERY system you are in and that it's just a spawn timer related issue whether you'll see them or not.

Yeah I think it is a bug in the coding, the NPC will spawn with the same name if you don't perform a jump.

Bug report time.

"Dear frontier. Today I was attacked by an undead ship after I killed it. Please nerf zombie griefers. <3 777driver"

It's not a bug. If you look at the message, it normally says 1/1, 1/2 or 1/3. 1/3 means that you have to kill him 3 times, which isn't easy in a non-combat ship, in which case you have to put up with the constant interdictions until you get to base.

You nearly always get these messages and the guy chasing you with those go and get missions, so it's best not to stack them with any others. IIRC, you get the message after you have the stuff in your hold, so once you have it, you should go straight to the delivery point.

I once took one of those missions on a Sothis run in a ship built for speed though capable of combat. On the way back, he came after me. Eventually, i got fed up with the constant interdictions, so I decided to fight him. I won and didn't even lose my shields, but when I got back to Sothis, I was 1 ton short. He managed to kill one of my cargo somehow. Anyway, as I still had to bring stuff back, I accepted another one of those missions on the next run. Big mistake. The original NPC was a 1/3, so 2/3 chased me all the way during my Sothis deliveries, and then I collected the cargo for the second go fetch mission as well as the extra ton for the first one, which then made 1/3 from that one start chasing me, so I had both of them interdicting me every couple of jumps, sometimes one at a time, sometimes both together, all the way back to Sothis. In the end, I can't remember the reason, but I had a fight with one of them before I got to the station. I won again without losing my shields, but when I got to the station, half my cargo was gone again, so i still couldn't deliver either of them, even though I bought extra cargo to cover that possibility. At that point, I abandoned both missions. I've no idea how they got the cargo out of my ship without me losing my shields. I didn't get a hatch-breaker warning. I can only guess that they were targeting my cargo hold with heat weapons or those ones that can bleed damage through your shields. My advice is therefore never to fight those NPCs if you can avoid it.

How can it not be a bug? The combat side of it is not an issue, the problem is spawning the exact same NPC (same loadout & NPC name) I have done plenty of missions that involved a bonus to kill multiple targets sent against me, this is the first time I have seen the same NPC appear a few minutes later after destruction.

On H-Jump the mission sends a different NPC as normal. It looks like a simple bug that can be resolved.

Its a timer bug, seen it before elesewhere. Go ahead and report it. BTW isn't Denzil a real Zappa....

or was it Dewzeeli....

I had the same thing happen yesterday. An elite cutter to boot. Took all my SCBs only because I like to pew pew lots (4 pips in weapons).

Odd, I see nobody there now. Maybe an instance thing, but I have 50mbps up and down and my router isn't 'd.

Edit - nm, it was an instance thing. As soon as I saw the python he hiwaked.

Hasn't this always been the case? I got chased back from Robigo on several occasions getting to kill the same NPC multiple times.

Also a friend had this recurring NPC keep cropping up in a FDL despite his mission being over - every time he started the game and every jump he made, still that one was like a cash machine 100K bounty, yes please!
