AI tuned very strangely?

I typically bounty hunt so I always go for the power plant, and it takes some maneuvering but the AI doesn't seem averse to it.

Conversely, when I pirate I aim for the cargo hatch. And THESE dummies spin and maneuver to avoid it AT ALL COSTS. Is it just me?

Sidebar, don't take pirate missions. They're awful. @_@
 
Slightly off your topic, but I have wondered about some npc's in warzones, whether they are actually pulling manoeuvres that go beyond the capability of that ship.
 
the AI got updated for hatching, I have no idea if that was deliberate or not but when the AI updates rolled in for 1.3 it became difficult to hatch any AI ship smaller than a T9 really. You will need limpets if you want to get anything done, and probably to destroy point defence modules :/

Given that hull HP is a joke, it's likely not feasible to shoot out the point defense on some ships I imagine, especially in the case of multiples.
