Engineers AI Worries - Heading Back After a 3 Month Exploration Expedition

Hi all. ;)

As the title says, I'm heading back to "the bubble" after having spent around 3 months exploring because I wanted to get my Elite Exploration rank. I didn't make it back before the Engineers update was released and now I'm worried, after seeing all the posts and a YouTube vid regarding the AI ships near insta-killing players before they've managed to deploy their weapons and turn around.

This is my Asp build: http://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/05A5D...i2f.AwRj4yvI.AwhMJBGacjUqJ4g=?bn=Asp Explorer

As you can see, it's hardly a light, stripped down, unarmed exploration ship, and I even have access to a player escort. But it still scares the poo out of me that, even in the first inhabited and Independent system I come to, and with a player as an escort, that these reportedly stupid AIs are going to ruin 3 months of work by killing me before I've boosted out of it's weapons range.

Is it worth me waiting until this AI stuff is sorted? Or is this new AI "working as intended" and I may as well YOLO and try, then rage-quit forever and ever if I get dead? XD

Thoughts?

Just know your escape routine: If you can't escape interdiction, submit and hightail as fast as you can!

:D S

"...more careful in combat"? lol How could more care have saved the guy in that vid? Even if he'd have had 4 pips to Sys, it would only have slowed down his death by a second or two (estimate). :p

I have an Asp as well. With those shields and booster you should be fine. Put 4 points to engines and the rest to shields. If you get interdicted just submit, boost, drop chaff (assuming you have any left) and jump. You'll be fine. Don't mess around, don't debate fighting it out, just jump. I've been interdicted many times in my Asp post 2.1, yet to die.

The one thing I'd suggest, particularly if you're going to travel around selling data to many places is to stop off as soon as possible and get a point defense. Missiles are much better now, therefore PDs are too.

Give some thought to where you put it. I have mine right above the cockpit since I'm either behind my opponent and shooting him or facing him and trying to get behind. If you're intention is to run put the PD on the back so it has a clear shot at any missiles coming in from that quarter.

Wait until it is sorted out. I can't imagine that this is what Frontier was intending, so I am expecting a patch for the AI, hopefully tomorrow. Why risk it? Right now the bubble is populated with homicidal AIs right out of AI War, so I wouldn't recommend coming home just yet. :D

This is good advice .... give FD a bit of time to make another promised balance pass for the AI and, hopefully, address some of the overpowered armaments issues. You've been out this long, why risk all that you've gained for the sake of another week ?

Stay out of civilized space for now.

I lost several ASPs yesterday to Npcs that do things no human player can do.
I fly FA off, boosting all the time 4 pips engine 2 pips sys.
Npc ASP still keeps up with me, firing weapons all the time.

Stay out of habited space!!!! The NPC's, even the harmless small fighters now kill fully kitted out Pythons in under 1 min, usually 10 seconds. If you have a lot of data to cash in,.... I suggest you turn off ED for at least a week untill the devs give usall an "All clear"!!!

This game is now BROKEN!!!!

That mus be why a dangerous courier couldn't destroy my Asp then.. dammit.

But seriously, yes, there might be bugs and it might be worth waiting until an AI pass is patched in. But your Asp actually has better shields then mine, and I was just fine up to now. The only thing I do different then suggested here is that I use 4 pips in shields instead of speed. If the pursuer is smaller, chances are it's faster then my asp, and if it's bigger, it's probably slower. Expections are FDLs, those evil buggers. Other then that chaff and Point Defence are your best friends.

This is great advice, I would take it and just wait a little until they fix it.

Hmm. thought the AI kinda sucked now. Was doing trading and was jumped by a python. Crushed it and only had a class 4 type C shield on my Conda. Did some bounties in a belt and was destroying ships easier than I did a month or 2 ago.

When I'm not doing trade runs and have nothing in my hold I never get interdicted. If all you have is exploration data I doubt an npc will bother with you but don't take my word for it as maybe I've just been lucky.

As someone with 6 months of Data I recently dropped in twice to change skin and decal as well as hit up some repairs.

3 key points:
1) Remove all stored cargo
2) Remove powerplay affiliation
3) Enter at a station with a very short trip (under 100ls) from the drop point that's very close to the edge of human space.

Then as above keep your ear to the ground, and hold over the emergency stop button if anyone looks like they are lining up behind you and have a backup plan.

It can go very very wrong, as above there are some bugs but using this method I've not had a single interdiction either time. Or you can carry on for a bit and wait for FD to patch the AI

You have pretty decent shields. You probably have enough time to high wake out. Forget outrunning anything in regular cruise, mind you.

I was in my ASP all the way out past Obsidian Orbital and got interdicted a few times, I submitted, boosted and got away easily. In my Python took out a Cobra Mk 4, and 3 without issues so a Python can hold their own, against 2 or more all bets are off, still one on one I can win, except against an Anaconda. They use to be sitting prey not anymore, and they shouldn't be. So no problem and I can out race them.
