Airdrop SRVs?

Any possibility to eventually drop the SRV without landing? You'd have to land the ship to get back on board obviously, but we can already drop vehicles from airplanes today, why not the future? Also, for multicrew exploration (if that will be a thing) it'd be great to drop your friend in an SRV and then rendezvous somewhere else later.

Be nice but eventually somone is going to drop an SRV in an area where the nearest flat spot is a couple of hours drive away then come on the forums demanding that FDEV move them closer.

I wonder what it would feel like flying over a flat surface at around 600mps then dropping out in the SRV, I am guessing it wouldn't feel quite as flat as it looks :D

Apart from the fact you would be facing the wrong direction, didn't think of that, so driving backwards across the surface at 600mps in an SRV, sounds even more fun!

The game can actually already hover your ship and let you board it.

This happens when the nearest spot to land is to far away.... I had this happen to me near a Guardian site, where my Anaconda would not land where I landed, instead it decided to hover over some ridge, so it was a bit tricky to navigate to the correct location to be able to be picked up.

Now my Anaconda was not built to be able to operate SRV hangar and thrusters at the same time, but it had no issues to hover and pick me up in my SRV, and once in cockpit, the ship was flight ready, thrusters online etc, just move throttle forward and I was moving.

So I do not expect this to require to much work to actually have this as an option, to land.

Yes, we can drop vehicles now. Heavily packaged, with their own parachute and with nobody on board.

No reason the ship needs to land for vehicle launch or recovery.
Just fdev and their obligatory awkward approach to making the game tedious.

I have been wanting this since day 1 of horizons.

And it's not like the SRV can't handle a drop.

I took about 3% damage landing that one..

I like the idea.
The current implementation might have to do with the transfer of control taking place in a secure environment and the question how the ship should act after ejecting you.

The ship would be instantly dismissed. It’s simple to code, I’d imagine. Just change the “landed” state to any value below x altitude allows SRV deployment subroutine, if value is not ground immediately execute dismissal routine.

Or simply if the thrusters are online/powered.
They shut off completely when you land, hence the spool up timer.

+1 for this, would be useful and fun. Not to mention, if/when more combat-oriented SRVs (and missions etc. for them) are added, combat drops would be awesome!

In my vision the crew+srv limit also gets removed.

And then envision myself a proper air to ground task where I come in with the corvette, blast an initial generator, and drop two crew members in SRV's, that then proceed to infiltrate while I provide aircover against launching ships incoming security etc.

The amount of game play being missed out on is a bit sad really :p

Yup, been wanting this for years. Really annoying when you find some amazing mountain you want to base jump off but can"t find a single place to land on top of it.

Multicrew SRV is one thing - and it would be a great thing if it ever materialised.

Air dropping the SRV would be another thing, and also great.

Multicrew + Airdrop = Awesome!

The next step would be a system to catch SRVs while moving (like collecting containers), obviously in SRV-multicrew only.
