Overview:
A system to register your ship, number of available seats, and daily/weekly flight schedule. Plain and simple. Log in and report to your station on or before the appropriate time window (10-15 minutes) and have a registered and ready load of passengers to your available locations ready. Steady payment from the station in question (flat rate no matter the number of passengers but like an airport it’s typically busy). Being late issues a large fine and you risk being “fired”. Reputation with the controlling faction weighs on how easily you could be fired.
Notable points:
-Without creating a so called “money fountain” it adds yet another consistent way for players to make an income and further immersion, also making passenger runs more realistic and/or more appealing without being, again, another “money fountain”.
- Adds more possibilities for FDev to incorperate ‘space legs’ to an already existing function and enhancing it’s experience.
- Adds possibilities to incorporate exploration much like named passengers to specific far off locations, but now at a consistent price, location, and occurence.
- In Q4 with the release of fleet carriers the possibility of enterprising as a “visitor station” apart from simply a respawn point is possible, furthering immersion and giving yet another reason for players to invest in said fleet carrier. In addition it allows the possibility of weekly cr rewards to fleet squadron members based on NPC traffic and incentivizes players to join a squadron much like power play but on a player controlled platform and smaller scale (possibly within power play itself). NPC traffic would be entirely based on player participation in transporting passengers to and from the station regularly and adds a review system based on flight time, comfort, etc. putting more emphasis on the customer satisfaction mechanic which appears to already be in play.
Risks/Challenges:
Making a balanced but inviting income might be a tight balance (or balancing act sorry FDev) to keep this from becoming a money fountain and making CG obsolete. Increasing player participation in the BGS may be difficult in terms of new participation but might also be easy if by registering you dramatically increase economic control for the current controlling faction (also incentivizing participation by making a shift in control delete any current registrations). Apart from the risks and challenges in cr reward balancing and BGS effects I believe in game this mechanic should have little to no negative reaction from players apart from the all too familiar “this makes for lazy pilots” excuse, easily brushed off by anyone who knows that this game is meant to be played however the player deems best. Adding more immersive and diverse mechanics should only serve to better the game experience as a whole.
Please give feedback! It’s just an idea I had a moment ago so don’t feel bad for saying you hate it I would just prefer something more specific and constructive of course haha
