Powerplay Aisling Duval: do I get any merit killing hostiles?

I know she's some sort non-violent leader. The question remains as a Powerplay newbie: can I go to other's controlled systems and kill their ships to gain some merit or will I just gain a bounty?
If so, what kind of enemy gives me more credit to earn? I heard different stories about it... Someone says don't kill Empire ships if you pledged an Empire leader...
Can someone explain those basis a little bit better?

Thank you lads.

You can only do it in enemy control systems and by killing ships belonging to the power. If you aren't tagged as hostile, you can't earn merits.

This is mostly correct. You can also kill enemy ships in systems that they are expanding into and oppose that. Sort of like last cycle when we prevented a certain fed-rat from expanding into Miroman.

***This is not a comprehensive guide on power play but solely to gain merits - rating...specifically with Aisling Duval but should work for others.
==================
Power Play: to gain merits for rating- Aisling Duval Prismatic Shields
==================
1:05 Part 1: When to begin the process of getting merits/killing
Power Play Weekly Cycle resets every thursday at around 7am GMT.
When it resets you will be the rank based on the total merits you had from the previous cycle
You will carry over half of the merits you had into the new cycle. Don't be concerned. If you made 750 merits last cycle you will be rank 3.
So to get the rating 4 you need to be at week 3 of your pledge. Before the cycle resets during that third week make sure you get to 750 merits. Once the cycle resets you will be at rank 3. Then wait the remaining x days of your pledge until you hit week 4 and before the next cycle get the shields.
So as an example: You pledge on Sunday. Cycle resets on Thursday. When you hit the 3rd Sunday being pledged , sometime between Sunday and Wednesday, get 750 merits. Technically you can even start the Thursday evening of week 2 in that case. But on the next Thursday you will be rank 3 when the cycle resets. From there wait until Sunday (or the remaining days to hit 4 week of being pledged) and then get your shields before the next power play cycle Thursday reset hits on Thursday.

7:11 Part 2. Who to Target
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...hat-do-you-need-to-do-for-each-of-the-Leaders
1. Go to Galactic Powers on left console.
2. Click faction your assigned too panel and go to Overview tab. Under the details section see which allegiance you are. If you are Empire target any faction thats not Empire. If your Federation target any faction not federation. If your Independent target any faction not independent and so forth.
3. Click Back and go to "Galactic Power Standing (center tile)
4. As you highlight each tile here they will show you if they are Empire, Independent, Alliance or Federation. Make sure to pick a faction that is not aligned to your faction.
5. Go to Control tab
6. Look at the "undermine task" to see what ships you need to target. For example it may say "federal logistics vessels". If you like what the undermining task is do that one.
11:51 Part 3: Pick a system.
7. Click the faction you want to go against then go to Control tab and pick a system based on how far away it is.
A) Alternatively go to Galaxy map and look at Power Play then filter by the target faction. From there make sure it set to control for view type.
B) Best way is the following: Use EDDB to pick a system
https://eddb.io/system
- Government: anarchy (optional)
- Presence Type: Controlling
- Powers: Zachary Husdon (or whichever faction you picked to go after)
- Power Effects: Control
- Reference System: Where u are
20:45 part 4. Who to target and interdict
8. Go to that system. You should appear as hostile initially
9. Go to the faction you are targeting, go to control tab and pick a system and see what the "undermining task" is. It will tell you to target x type of ship. For example with Zachary Hudson you target "Federal Logistic vessels".
10. Fly around in super cruise and target ships and scan them in super cruise. You are looking for the same type as you got above, in this case: "federal logistics vessels". To use this example:
A) Open the contacts
B) Look for ships based on the type of ship your looking for. For example with "federal logistics vessels" your looking for cargo vessels. So target those.
C) Once you have scanned the vessel it will show under the ship type on your bottom left. (should be 2nd line). It will also switch from saying ahuler or type-9 to "federal logistics vessels". It will also show as "federal logistics vessels" on your main screen under them when you target them after scanning them.
D) The ship type (ie cargo type ships) have a higher chance of being "federal logistics vessels" if they are cargo however its not a guarantee...and some combat type ships may be "federal logistics vessels" as well so if your not finding any of your ship type scan other ships
11. Interdict them..kill them...get merits
A) If you interdict a wing everyone in the wing will count and give you merits
B) Kill escort ships first to prevent them from flying off
12. If system is in anarchy everyone is lawless. Targets that are Lawless wont get u any bounty/wanted status.
13. This method gives you 30 merits per ship you interdict and kill. Wings is 30 per ship as well so a wing of 3 gives u 90 merits.
41:35 part 5. where to turn in merits
14. Repeat step 7 but this time use your faction your aligned with and be sure to not have Anarchy system selected. Pick the closest system and fly there
15. Turn in your merits.
