There is no Final Version - just ongoing development. Planetary landings are planned as a paid expansion, as is walking around stations/ships/EVA.
However, enhancements that will directly affect the base game (flying around in spaceships) will likely be unpaid. FD just haven't gotten those bits done yet.
This is launch year, really. While there is bound to be ongoing development in lots of areas, the focus right now will be on getting core stuff finished and launching on other platforms. Since aliens are rare, aliens can wait.
One thing I would love to see are a species that evolved on Gas Giants. Gas Giant life is pretty common in the E
galaxy, so odds are that intelligent life has popped up somewhere. Iain M Banks' The Algebraist has some good stuff regarding that.

As far as i know this Game has BETA Status yet... an BETA always ends with an final Version... sure the game will be writen on but there might be an Point when the DEVS thinks the game is finished.
