Alioth permit

So I want to get the Alioth permit, I heard that you gotta get allied with the alliance. But the alliance doesn’t have navy ranks like the fed and emp (at least I don’t think so) so does that mean I have to be allied with each separate system? If so, how many systems are in the alliance, and are they in a cluster?
Thanks

You have to be allied with the Alioth Independents minor faction. They have a presence in most systems near Alioth. Do missions for them, or turn in vouchers and exploration data at stations they control.

You just have to do enough rep missions with Alliance aligned factions. Your status page shows your rating with each of the three superpowers. The Federation and Empire are more complicated in that you have rank as well as rating. Alliance has only rating.

<Edit> Ninja'd. Also, I'd forgotten that it has to be Alioth-aligned.

This is the correct answer - you will only get the actual permit from systems within 15Ly of Alioth (though you can rank up with them anywhere).

Ok. So, theoretically I could just work for 1 system long enough until I get the permit?

Yes, that is correct. If you do missions, choose REP++++ rewards if possible, if you have a passenger ship be sure to check passenger missions too. Donation missions are the fastest way to increase rep, if available (but may cost quite a bit of money).

If you find a station that is controlled by Alioth Independents, trading, handing in bounties and exploration data will also increase your reputation with them.

It shouldn't take long.
I've been collecting up permits recently and I can usually get one per night of playing.

FWIW, the easiest way to know if you can get the permit in a given place is.... cos it'll be visible in the mission board. ;)

Even if you haven't reached "Allied" status with the required faction, there'll be a "mission" called "Permit Opportunity" shown on the mission board.

This is worth knowing 'cos there are times when you might be at a station where the required faction IS present but, for some reason, they don't provide the "Permit Opportunity" mission.
In that case, go find a different station where they do, and run missions for them.

Could you tell me all the permits you’ve been stacking, the benefits, and how to get them? Thanks

Good thing to know about the 15ly radius. I was sucking up to Sirius Corp at Sothis for days before going to another base to see if they would be more inclined to give the Sirius permit mission. It was just waiting for me next to Sirius. D'oh!
But Sothis paid off big time so no sulking :)

Erm, in short, all of them, and by doing missions for the required faction. [where is it]

There's a thread all about permits here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/122593-Updated-Permit-List

And there's a spreadsheet with a heap of info here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ltjRmRtHC39avyXXS9--NJK0_AnlgFUldcCCxTFp5bY/edit#gid=0

For the most part, they don't really provide any benefit at all.
It's just another one of those things to do for the sake of it.

IIRC, the Alioth permit gives you access to stations where you can buy some ships at a discounted price.
Another useful one to get is the Isinor permit, cos Isinor has an "outlaw station" where gangs of NPCs fight each other in big ships and if you join in you can scoop some very nice mat's from the wreckage. ;)
