A smart business man would see people clamouring for cosmetics and keep the prices as they are, as there is a demand.

Price drops only occur when demand reduces, or to impriove on a potentially weak initial demand level.

I think you will find that discounts will always work better to increase sales. If you state that something is discounted by 40%, people will buy it, even if it was overpriced by 60% in the first place.

It is not the cost that drives the average buyer, it is what they are told they will save, if they buy it now.
