Sometimes I love this game... other times I want to throw my controller through the TV.

All I want to get is some meta alloys. Various posts online, go to Maia, buy from Darnelle's Progress.... nope., nothing there. Then another post suggests a system nearby. I spend ages trying to track the damn coordinates, finally get there and then get attacked by craft defending it. That coordinate tracking system is rubbish imo.

if anyone can tell me where I can get this bloody meta alloy easily I would be very grateful and no, its not at Darnelle's Progress.

Merope 2A, station Alcazar's Hope. It's on the edge of a plain. Look across the plain to the rocky bits on the other side and, more importantly, the bloody great Capital ship hovering there. There are barnacles under it.

There should be 3, one has guards, so go to the unguarded ones. Shoot the spikes with the big green glowy globs - normally there are 3 or 4 - they should produce 'mining fragments' which when scooped are Meta-alloys.

I did the same thing Hamster. I believe I went to another station in the Maia system. It could have been Obsidian Orbital. Hope this helps.

Column J, Status: filter for "Ripe"
Column I, Defences: filter for "none"
Column H, Number of Meta Alloys: sort descending

From this, Pleiades Sector OI-T C3-7 looks currently like a good system. If you're getting shot at by players, that's a risk you run everywhere in Open, so take the usuall precautions.

As for finding the spot on the planetary surface: yes, it's a PITA. Get used to it :cool:.

Most of the planets are pretty small, though, so a circumnavigation only takes a few minutes. What I usually do is:
- get into orbital cruise, level out the ship
- align the ship onto 0° or 180° (compass, HUD middle top)
- watch the coordinates and simply fly until the first set of coordinates matches up
- throttle down, turn left or right by 90 degrees (so now facing 90° or 270°), throttle up again to a comfortable speed and almost match up the second set of coordinates
- drop down to the surface, then look for the exact spot
- find a nice landing spot not too far away from the Barnacle(s), then get down to business

With some experience, you should be able to guess where you'll have to start descending when you want to hit ground zero spot on, but I've never gotten that far. I just use a fast ship and boost the rest of the way.
Plus, with a little less experience, you can pretty soon make a good guess on the geological features the Barnacles like.

What I haven't tried yet is whether carpeting the Barnacles with dumbfires or shock mines from the ship would make them relase the pods, so I just can collect them by SRV.

Oh yeah, that spreadsheet helps.^ I've gotten hold of more Meta-Alloys than I know what to do with using it. There were a whole lot more sites I didn't know existed just researching with Google.

Arrr, you'll not be having many of those shortly, matey! I hears talk that there be Thargoids feedin' off them thar things. Why, soon all the galaxy will be flooded with that spawn of the devil. Best ye be staying in port there.

Hi Commanders, wanted to say thanks for everyone that replied. Second time I've posted here and everyone has been helpful and not one "Get Gud Scrub" comment yet!

Followed the spreadsheet as suggested by @Ashnak, found a few meta-alloys and @TheNut thanks for the laugh, I might have had a few beers last night and was in a rage :)

I sold 21 tons of them at Obsidian Orbital the other day after picking them up while collecting arsenic (and other mats) at a barnacle site the other day, got 1.5 mil for them as well! :D
