By all-in-one, do you mean one of those PC's where all the hardware is behind he monitor?

If so don't they basically use laptop-spec hardware?

Yup, they do. Expensive to buy, expensive to upgrade and definitely not gaming machines unless you are going to spend 50 to 100% more than a high end gaming rig, just to get mid range performance.

Then they get hot and throttle down to cool off. If one component breaks in them the unit itself is broken. Lack of upgrade options etc.

Yup, I don't like them.

Well I was watching a Dell Inspiron 2350 All-in-One Touchscreen Desktop PC
with a
Processor: 4th Gen Intel i7 4710MQ @ 2.50GHz
Memory: 12GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz
which gives it a 7984 benchmark?

So scrap that idea then LOL

next!!!!!

In a quick search that model is pretty old, and I'm not sure the spec was that good even then. Certainly for now, I wouldn't consider it unless they're practically giving it away, and even then, it wont be much use for modern games.

In that case, same. Laptops are not my favourite thing in the world.
