All Open server, just how dangerous is it?

So I have only played in private groups or solo but have recently considered joining the all open server to try my luck and decided to come here and get some opinions on just how "dangerous" it really is. Don't get me wrong i expect a lot of hectic time in space but i want to hear what some of you think so have at it, tell me your thoughts.

I mostly play in solo but the times I've been in open nobody has ever bothered me. There's always the risk of douchebags ramming you in stations or blowing you up just for the lulz though.

In reality its not. The likely hood of coming across other players is slim from my expirience. You get a few every now and then if you go somewhere busy but its hardly like WoW where hundreds gather in one predictable spot.

Well, so far this is a little disheartening as i had hoped for a bit more exciting of an experience but hey what can ya do. I won't get it get me down though this game is far too good for that. Thanks for the info and keep 'em coming.

I mostly play solo because of all the rude players in RES and combat zones sneaking in a kill shot on my bounties.
Really irks me to the point I want to destroy them, but I just wait and return the favor when they've worked over a big ship by stealing theirs.

75%+ of your interactions will be positive even if you hang around the crazy hot-spots. However, the bad interactions can set you back many hours/days gameplay so tend to impact you a lot more (and prey on your fears).

I would not recommend open in an unarmed trader unless you are out in the sticks.

Played in open since launch, mainly trading, spent most of the time in high human pop areas. Not a single bad experience. I actually think most of the bad experiences you hear online are absolute complete overreaction, or complete nonsense, one bad experience in countless hours and they are complaining how the game is full of griefers, the funniest are the ones complaining of griefers who try to pirate them, and logging off to stop them, irony at max. Infact out of every single griefer complaint thread I have read I dont think a single one was legitimate.

Most of the experiences you have will be friendly, alot will ignore you, some will chat, most are reasonable, a tiny percentage might attack. I dont believe Ive been lucky all these months.

Most of the time it will be no different to solo

I play a mixture of open, solo and mobius depending on what I'm in the mood for. Never had any bad experiences in open whatsoever, a lot of people seem to confuse "gameplay" for griefing which is sad really. For example getting pirated or interdicted and killed is not "griefing" it's just part of the damn game and if you're gonna play in open then you should be fully expecting human interaction in all its forms.

I've never left open myself and I've never had any bad experiences whatsoever. I've never had anyone attack me for any reason and most encounters are doing things like grouping up to hunt in a res or something. I routinely trade in completely unarmed ships so I can have a longer jump range and go about my business. Never had any non consensual PVP (although I know its a possibility) and mainly only have attacked other players in conflict zones when they were fighting for the other side. Its really not like people want you to believe it is, there aren't wings of player anacondas roaming everywhere just looking to kill you to ruin your day or anything.

The real benefit for open for me is knowing that the threat is always there and is real, not like with NPC's, although most of the time like others have said its very difficult to even find other commanders.

I've never had a bad PvP experience either, but that may be down to me mostly flying around in well equipped combat ships, and having a decent combat rating. That probably makes me a not particularly juicy PvP target. Even when flying unarmed trade ships I've never actually been bothered by any griefing, or even any player pirates.

Like Jackboot says above, it's the potential danger that adds to the immersive experience. Even when I'm in my A-spec Vulture, a group of players in a system can make me feel a little paranoid, even though they probably don't mean me any harm whatsoever.

I explore and trade so avoiding the annoying people is part of the game-play. I think I've lost ships twice, during CG runs when the hostiles were out in force. In that situation you're definitely a target. Otherwise I never see anyone.

It's as dangerous as you make it. You can spend time in systems (inside HumanSpace) and literally never see a person. Good systems too, with close by stations, RES, and reasonable trading. You can also go through the heavily trafficked systems, or hostile systems, and it can be dangerous.
