Horizons All reputation gains gone?

I think I read about this before, but I stopped playing for a while and today came back to play, flying my Conda with a 20 million rebuy cost and all I'm getting is missions that pay 20K - 100K if I'm lucky. I had a msg that my rep with one faction had gone from exalted to friendly.

Is that reputation decay or something else? I thought only power play suffered from decay?

The only missions I see that pay more now are kill the skimmer missions which I do not care for.

Yes, your rep degrades over time. If I'm not mistaken, it goes down to cordial and stays there.

I'm pretty sure it's only major power rep that decays, and that goes to a minimum of 75% (Friendly). It will also decay upwards if you are hostile.

Minor faction rep shouldn't degrade unless you do something to disappoint them, such as failing a bunch of missions.

Oh, that could have been it. Maybe when I logged out long ago I let a bunch of missions go stale.

You should have seen the 'Mission Failed' pop-up in the HUD, but that will definitely do it. I didn't play for a week or so and had missions fail, and my local rep went from Allied to Friendly with the faction. Took I think two missions for them to get back to Allied.

It encourages people to play regularly

;)

I hated this idea when it was first announced, and I hate it still... :)

Players should be rewarded (or punished) for things they do, not simply punished for not playing. The fact that superpower rep means very little makes it relatively trivial, but nonetheless, while I have no real issue with reputation decay, it should occur while you are playing, and be based upon things you choose to do or not do while playing.

+1 rep to Faded Glory! Nice comment mate! I fully agree with you. I have not played since 14 December and it will probably be another 2 weeks before I can play again. I know my rep will all decay to Friendly when I come online. That sucks in a big way! FD should stop this practise. We should not feel obliged to play and feel like we want to play!

It penalises those who don't have access to the game for a while for reasons they can't overcome. Going on holiday for an extended period with no PC good enough to play, going to hospital, PC goes bang and they don't have the cash to repair/replace it, or some other reason they can't get online regularly. It's a really BAD idea because after all their hard work to get their rep standing up, they have to do it all over again. It's probably the quickest way to get players to rage quit.

Yep, I dont think much of it either.

It's not really worth maintaining Allied with superpowers. You fall to within a few % of Allied. There's not much penalty there at all.

Sometimes missions fail for no apparent reason. Some players can't get to the POI or whatever. A pirate blows your cargo hatch and you lose a unique.

That is just evil FD wanting us to spend our holiday time away from grandkids and children.

Shame FD. Shame. Shame.

I experienced it last summer. Think I was about half way grinding for a Fed rank.

Unfortunately (naughty me and naughty real life) - I had to go on holiday with the wife and kids for 2 weeks.

So when I got back with a tan and an empty wallet, I logged in to ED to carry on; and I was back to Friendly with the Feds. Took me a week of 2 hour sessions to get back to allied and continue the rep grind. Annoying, yes. But it wasn't that horrible.

Think its stupid though, degrade over say a month, fair play, but Allied to friendly in 10 days, SILLY.

In my experience faction rep doesn't work as intended or at the least is buggy. I am a long time menber of a local faction, follow their rules at all times, have very rarely failed a mission for them, sell all my exploration data to them and yet I can go from big money to low money missions at the same station from one day to the next, even though my trader rep is tycoon. What I did find out though was that in my case my local faction was top dog in 11 local systems and when the missions dried up at one they normally appeared at one of the other stops. It mean a bit of 1-2 jump travelling but then you were good for a day or two.

I think superpowers SHOULD ask you the question -"What have you done for me lately?" but "lately" should count towards your ONLINE time. Like if you travel to the core, the powers are in their right to forget about you and shove you down their list. But when you're just offline it should all stay the same.
