Basically the number of fire group maps needed for a ship is out of control, on just one ship I have to map:
Pulse analyzer
Detailed surface scanner
Discovery scanner
Composition scanner (I recant remember the exact name)
Kill warrant scanner
Manifest scanner
wake scanner
Data scanner (can't remember the name, but its how you read megaship logs and stuff)
It's out of control and my suggestion is every ship should come standard with two non-removable mappable hard points:
* Pulse analyzer
* Scanner
One sends out a radar like pulse, the other requires a target that you scan.
ALL modules you purchase for the above use cases still take up ship slots, but serve to "program" the modules you have. So let's say you've purchased everything above.
If you're in supercruise and fire the pulse, it does a discovery scan, if you in a belt it does the asteroid search.
If you're targeting a ship, it does the manifest and kill warrant scan at the same time, if you're pointing at a data log, it does the data scan, etc etc...
The length of time of the scan can still be staged based on the quality of the modules that programmed the scanner.. so perhaps if you're holding down the scanner, you let go early when the faster kill warrant scan is complete, because you don't care for it to finish the manifest scan.
I know you can technically bind these all together to simulate this, but it's just tedious to manage this in the firing groups, and I think it'd make more sense to do it this way.
Cheers
