All Terrain Paints unlocked for each map

Hi, Lovely Planet Coaster Team!

I'm a huge fan of Planet Coaster, this amazing game is the reason that I started making content on Youtube!
Of course there will always be something that's missing for everyone but one thing I just can't get over and makes me feel really limited..

In order to make a real theme park with different themes i'm just missing the option to use terrain paints from different maps.
We have the rocks from different maps but if I want to create a desert area in my Alpine park i would have to use the scenery rocks and that will
tank my performance and would be a crazy amount of work.

I would love to just choose a map for the backdrop and from there have the freedom to make anything I want. I can only imagine what everyone could do
with this.. like make alien worlds with paints that you can mix up or something.
Could you guys look into this, if this is possible?!

Thanks so much for all that you are doing, I keep being amazed and love being a part of this amazing community.

I'm on board. Real theme parks have lands that correspond to various themes. I see no reason from a gameplay perspective that we should be able to use elements from all biomes on a single map... from a technical perspective, however... well, that's up to Frontier!

It's something requested often. Frontier devs already indicated that due to how the graphic engine works, it only allows a limited amount of textures (that can't even be that much different, as they are used in transitions).

So I wouldn't count on it.

Seems that using textured rocks actually affects less on performance than having the different textures, which would basically make the game unplayable [wink]

Even if it was a cheat code, with sharp transitions instead of smooth transitions, It would help me realise my themed areas a lot easier.

Yes, this has been my number one complaint as well. Drives me absolutely bonkers that I can't make a truly western desert area, without covering completely with Desert rocks. Give us the freedom please! as well as the previously stated sharp line transition (or lack there of)_

Thank You!

i hope this can be improved in the future. in a couple years with better CPUs, we will want bigger parks with the ability to have a variety of themes combined. I can understand certain technical limitations, but this is a pretty big problem that would be disappointing if it can never improved.

It was highlighted more for me with this new update. The festive theme and snow biome is amazing, but the gingerbread pieces look some much better in the snow biome than in a desert. I love the game, and the updates and the work that has gone in so far, I just wish they could find a way to implement this. If they could find a way even to make say one texture from each biome work with every biome, it would open up the usage of the prop rocks. For example, make the tropical grass, orange sand and snow work on every map type. Even if we don't get all the nuances of creating a park in that specific biome, it would give us so many more options in our parks.
I think this will become more of an issue as time moves on as I would imagine working in a snow biome, will be very limiting with the other themes, i.e. Western, pirate etc.

THIS PLEASE! is am in love with this update so i wanted to test everything asap! but then.. no snow option in normal maps.. and no gras option in snow biome..[cry] i hope devs see this

It's a technical restriction unfortunately, and has been discussed a lot. See my response here: https://forums.planetcoaster.com/sh...without-snow-terrain-tool?p=155386#post155386

But what if you create a map with not 3 grass textures, but just 1 grass texture, 1 red rock texture, and 1 snow texture.
The amount off texture will be the same but there will be less of the same type and more of different types.

e.g. (In the apline remove the hay texture and replace it with red rocks)

That would indeed be entirely possible (I think), as I also stated in response to the other thread that I linked, it would just be down to the developers to make that possible.

Taken from another thread this is what Andy has responded with;

Apologies, but this isn't going to change any time soon. I've spoken before about why this is, and nothing has changed since then. The biomes will still be locked to specific textures. And we've taken on board your feedback about wanting to be able to pick from a texture palette rather than using our pre-authored Biomes, and while I can't promise anything regarding that just yet (you know how we roll - we only like to commit to something when we're 100% sure we can deliver it), but watch this space!

The collision system is used for lots of different things in game, so this isn't an easy option at all. We make many spatial tests during the game, which won't work if things are intersecting, so again this isn't just a checkbox and turning a flag off somewhere. I know this is an often requested feature - rest assured it's been recognised here at Frontier. But it's perhaps not as easy to implement as you might think.

Cheers

I would like some rock textures with snow and ice so that you could create snow and ice topped mountains.

You can mix terrain paints!! Just start with rock, then lower intensity and brush some ice on there and then some snow.. there you go ice topped mountains :D
