Answers from previous threads we won't be repeating:
  • We have not been able to identify a current solution to the Pulse Wave Analyser bug. It has been pushed to our code team to investigate further. Please be aware that they are currently working on Odyssey and working from home. This is a priority for us.
  • A fix for the Azure Paint Job has been rolled out in testing and we are currently waiting to see if it is successful.
  • With regards to unrevealed lore and narrative we won't be confirming or denying any information!

Q: Please could you introduce a new assassination mission which has a risk/reward structure that favours the CMDR using a smaller ship with no engineering? That would introduce a new and fun challenge for seasoned pilots, and make greater use of small ships like Eagles and Sidewinders, which a CMDR can just buy and dispose of on a whim.

Q: Could we get a keybind for 'request docking'?

Q: Will we be able to hire npc in places normally reserved for multi-crew ? Will we be able to win back an admiral and hire a small fleet of ships that can be sent to different missions (approximately as it is done in star trek online or no man's sky)?

We're aiming to do a forum post answering questions on Odyssey in the future and we will get this added to the list


Q: Major concern regarding Odyssey and what will happen after it's launch. I understand the focus is Odyssey right now and probably everyone is fully committed on it, but I find it quite incomprehensible on how long it takes Frontier to solve MAJOR bugs that have been reported for months and still no patch has been applied. I know as CMs you say "it's being solved and when the fix is available, we will roll it out". So my question is: after Odyssey is launched, will we see activity from the Devs team to be around for bug fixing within few days or will Elite Dangerous fall in the "low priority project" once again? In fact, are there plans to keep updating Elite Dangerous after Odyssey?

I understand your concerns and where they come from. I can assure you that the team and I will not be ignoring any issues current or historic. We will continue to push these under the nose of those that need to see them.
Whilst we aim to always release an issue free update / expansion with a game of this size and scope it is ineveitble that some will arrise. I am currently working with the dev team to look at what practical timelines we can set for updates post launch, with the current world situation in place.


Q: Everything so far points to Thargoid combat on foot (mainly with Ammonia worlds being terraformed), will that be a possibility in Odyssey?

Thargoids will remain a key part of the Elite Dangerous universe.


Q: Salad Cream. Yes, or YES?

Yes but also Yes.


Q: Can we expect any changes to Powerplay functionality in different game modes (PP contributions in Open being different to those in PG/Solo) in 2021?

Power play is a big part of Elite and one we will be looking into in the future.


Q: Will Powerplay leaders art (the portraits) be swapped for 3D avatars like system faction leaders? Although the 2D art is lovely, it would be great to have 3D leaders who can be happy, seething with rage etc.

Short answer is I dont know actually will ask - but I do like this idea.


Q: Will the Galnet Anaconda be available again in the near future?

We get asked this a lot - let me see what I can do!


Q: Beyond the current and upcoming balance changes, does the team have any plans to do before Odyssey, or even with Odyssey, any QoL updates and bug fixes?

We're currently focused on Odyssey but will be looking at how we can address other issues in future.


Q: When will there be an option to transfer the tritium remotely from the carrier's warehouse to its fuel storage without having to be on site and do this manually with a cargo ship, actual it is not convenient.

Thank you for the feedback, Elite is designed primarliy as a simulation, but of course gameplay is important to us - I will pass this on.


Q: Are there any plans to add an option for multiple concurrent filters in the Galaxy Map? Currently for example you can select either filtering by Star Class or by Visited Systems but not both. Being able to select both of these concurrently would be of massive help in targetted exploration efforts.

We don't have any current plans for new filters. If you would like to suggest some though do please share them in our Suggestions forum.


Q: How big is the Elite Dangerous feature backlog/wishlist and where can that be found online?

We are always looking at what features are requested, and what features can be implemented. As to how big that wishlist is...big, very very big.


Q: Given the reduced credit earning capacity for pacifists in the recent rebalance, are there any plans to reduce the purchase costs of Fleet carriers to allow paupers to purchase them without resorting to some sort of magic egg?

We don't have any current plans to reduce the price of Fleet Carriers.


Q: Can we expect any changes to the UI in terms of ship loadouts that would allow us to manage our ships and modules through menus and 'drag & drop' funcionality, instead of having to switch ships just to even see what modules we have on them?

Q: How many minutes will the trailer of tomorrow's game play have?

Wait and see!


Q: The module rewards for CGs have been great. Can we bump up the module storage cap if this type of reward will continue to be provided?

Let me chat to the devs about this - I imagine there are larger balancing issues around this but can ask!


Q: Would it be possible to have the style filter on the paintjobs on the store, let you select paintjobs such as Predator or Stygian or Midnight Black etc? so it shows all the ships and vehicles with that paintjob.

Q: How does Odyssey deal with ship kits? Currently they are ghosts that have no collision hull. Since we can (I assume) jump onto our ships, or use them as cover will ship kits be solid? Its going to be annoying if someone hides behind a ship kit piece only to have a railgun pop them like a water balloon.

We're looking to do a bigger forum post answering more questions about Odyssey so we'll add this as a potential question on there.


Q: What's something you wanted to show off in the Odyssey trailer, but couldn't, that you can also talk to us about and promote before it actually drops?

There's lots of cool things we want to show off with Odyssey that's not quite ready to be highlighted just yet. Keep an eye out though as we can't wait to see your reactions to what's to come!


Q: Is logging out (closing it) and back into the game in order for things to re-appear allowed? Example of things to re-spawn: Materials (Dav's Hope; Jameson's crash site), NPCs (pirates with bounties and such), Guardian structures reset (to re-do the puzzle and get more blueprints, get more materials, etc.). I personally don't see a reason why it wouldn't be allowed, but I just want to be 100% sure.

It is not the way we hoped players would 'gather' these materials but we understand why players do it. I mentioned on our last stream that we have engineering on our radar as one of the big three to balance. It is a big undertaking and one we are looking at thrashing out of the break. Expect to see 'some' changes in the 2021.


Q: Crossplay? Never or Maybe?

We know some are interested in crossplay. We don't currently have any plans but should that change we will let everyone know.


Q: What level of customization will players have over their FPS weapons in Odyssey? Will we be able to change/add sights, scopes, attachments, skins, etc.?

We understand this is important to players - we will have more on the customisation options in the coming months.


Q: Will we be able to fly other CMDRs' ships in Odyssey? Wether if it's by multicrew or stealing?

That's a good question. We're aiming to have a larger forum post answering individual questions on Odyssey and we'll add this as one of the potential questions.


Q: Will we have the possibility to have our CMDR Names marked on planets in the style of : "First landed on by CMDR X" ? like it is now for newly discovered and mapped planets?

There will be a way for you to make your mark and we'll be showing more on that in the future


Q: Regarding some comments that AMA is not giving enough information, how about giving some tips each launch on the area you would have some information to share that time? or giving out some information at the start at minimum amount permitted?

We are looking at refining these, however at the moment I wanted to see what everybody is asking about so that the team and I can go away and focus attention where the community is pointing.


Q: Are there going to be more ground mission types added? And could the mission boards have more types of missions for each faction state, (more options to do different types game content,)

We're not ready to discuss mission specifics just yet but we will let everyone know when the time comes.


Q: Can you increase payouts for solo mining missions as some commodities can be sold for more credits than what missions offer? For example a mining mission from a faction that I have high reputation with would pay around 2 million credits for 24 units of Osmium but the average sell price for osmium is roughly 200,000 credits to 250,000 credits per unit. So I would make around 2 million credits just selling around 8 to 10 units of Osmium at best sell station.

Q: In the Codex, it says that the Guardian sites were found as a result of Halsey's visions. However in reality, they were found via images in a trailer. At the time, it was said that there had been something planned for how they were going to be found but that got cut off due to them being found via the trailer. Does the Codex version represent what should have happened rather than what did?

This is BEFORE my time but I would suggest that CODEX is the correct narrative


Q: Maybe wrong place for this, but: Have you ever thought of making a "suggestions" version of the issue tracker? Where people with Frontier accounts could post and vote for suggestions on what they'd like to see. Of course, with no implication that anything would actually get implemented, but just for both you and the community to see what exactly people are expecting? Maybe instead of the comment system of the issue tracker then force people who post suggestions to link a thread on the suggestions forum to it, so people can discuss it there?

Thanks for the idea. There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to suggestions and whilst something might be popular it may not necessarily be best for the game or could impact future plans. Our developers do check out the Suggestions forums though so always share any ideas you have there so they can see them.


Q: Any plans for a "Midnight Black" paint for the Fleet Carrier?

We don't have any announcements right now but we do know this is something the community would like.


Q: When Horizons was announced FDev said that landing on Earth like worlds was 'a long way off'' & understandably so. With Odyssey arriving early next year with tenuous atmospheric worlds is that long way off now a little bit closer?

We have no plans for this right now - if this changes we will let you know.


Q: Any plans to balance passanger missions? I know Robigo Mines gives a lot of money, but passager missions are not that viable elsewhere. They are more demanding than cargo missions and pay less

We are currently reviewing all areas of balancing for Elite Dangerous and passenger missions have been highlighted.


Q: we have spent so many years in a sitting position only. Will this affect the performance of the characters' legs (at least for a while)? Some atrophy should have occurred in that amount of time.

Q: From the Elite Dangerous: The Journey So Far video: "But only the best became... Elite". Does that still reflect an accurate statement of what the vision is for what Elite Dangerous should be like? Assuming so, is the current huge difference between that vision and the general state of things well recognised and are there plans to do anything about it?

We are aware of balancing issues and are currently looking at how we address these.


Q: Is Mahon a trustworthy person?

Is anyone really trustworthy?


Q: Any chance to make PvP more engaging? Shortening time-to-kill, incentivising encounters, PvP areas exclusive to engineered/not-engineered ships, that sort of thing.

PVP in CQC is the only place those changes could take place, we are aware of its current shortcoming and is something we would like to work on.


Q: What ... was in Patch 8 that went out today?

The patch featured a fix to help Epic Games Store commanders who were receiving a "Login lost" message.


Q: will Odyssey space suits get kits? I need a raider kit for mine

Customisation and cosmetics are a key part of Elite Dangerous, that'll be true of Odyssey as well! More on this later.


Q: The recent 'loreification' of changes via galnet articles has been excellent, and a big improvement on how things have been previously. Keep up the good work! With that in mind, how about doing something similar to give a bit of recognition to some significant in game achievements (whether by group or individuals). Things like Zulu Romeo's arrival at Sag A for example. It's not just the recognition side of things. There's a lot of stuff that people who are newer to the game won't have been around for, and it might be good to give them a bit of an overview of significant happenings as well!*

For sure - we'd love to do this!


Q: In Odyssey, when transitioning from ships to (breathable?) space stations, will my character be in the selected outfit I bought from Holo-Me or in one of the new suits?

That's a good question which I don't have the answer for right now. Will add this to the list for the Odyssey post we're looking to release in future


Q: Can we see a return of Thargoid massacre missions in areas where Thargoids are present such as Pleiades, Witch Head Nebula And Coalsack to get a little extra for thargoid combat.

We recently buffed Thargoid Combat Bonds considerably (4x) but know that Massarcre missions, incursions and AX CZs are popular requests - we'll bear them in mind moving forward!


Q: Hi chaps, are you planning to allow NPC crew to sit in the cockpit?

Good question, we have nothing to announce at the moment about NPC crew members.


Q: What ... was in Patch 8 that went out today?

Just some maintenance, no tangible in-game changes, hence no patch notes!


Q: As an explorer, especially with Odyssey coming where I can be the first walking on a planet, will we be able to see which systems we discovered first? Or which planets we mapped first? And with Odyssey, which planets we walked on first?

We'll be sharing more on how explorers can make their mark in Odyssey in future.


Q: will ship kits ever show up in the HUD / spinny loading screen? If I bolt twenty foot spikes to my hull I want that represented

This would be nice, but probably means creating those assets for every single combination of ship kit pieces on every ship which would be a huge amount of work. A nice to have, but likely to continue taking the backseat priority-wise compared to more pressing projects for the graphics team.


Q: Will Odyssey bring more mysteries and codes similar to that of the Thargoid Probe Spectrogram?

It wouldn't be a mystery if we told you

We're keen to make improvements to PvP, I expect more discussion around this to take place in 2021.


Q: Is there a stance on 'cut scenes'? (I consider Elite all the better for having none.)

I don't know about an official stance, but I too prefer that there are none. Dead Space famously has no cutscenes, which creates the effect of a continuous experience. This works well for immersion in Elite since it's part sim as well as part game.


Q: Question to add to Odyssey post please: If a player isn't into FPS combat will that part of the expansion be optional? For explorers surely, but for space truckers as well?

Like with the current game you can avoid combat if you want to.


Q: Great! Anything we can do to help support this? Compile and put forward a list of historic achievements for consideration or something like that?

If someone were to compile a list of such achievements, that would certainly be helpful even if we aren't offering an expected time to implement such a thing.


Q: Perhaps I need merely to simplify the question, was it intentional for the Thargoid Orthrus interceptor to be revealed during Professor Palin's Attack?

This falls under "things for you to work out and speculate aorund" rather than "things for us to tell you".


Q: I guess a less obsessive question - What are your own favourite moments in Elite, so far? I figure more ordinary AMAs actually ask the Person something here and there too, not just the company

My favourite moment(s) is watching Bruce betray Arthur on an Elite Dangerous Livestream.


Q: Are there plans for a higher limit of bookmarks in the galaxy map, as well as the possibility to introduce different categories with different colors/symbols (for a better organization)?

I'm keen on improvements to the bookmark system, like custom ordering and folders and symbols/colour coding etc as you mention could be great too! There are no plans currently, but it's a request we're well aware of.


Q: Will pve piracy get any love? (there's plenty of commodity that are found exclusively on npcs)

We have a lot of love for pirates, however, they keep stealing that love and burying it on random planets.


Q: Will we be able to use our current clothing in Odyssey?

You will be able to wear your current Elite Dangerous clothing.


Q: Is frontier looking at bringing back thargoid conflicts (AXCZs, Incursions) in the future at all?

Thargoids will continue to be a key part of the Elite Dangerous narrative.

I hope this means they don’t have plans for saying ELWs are a bit closer, instead of no plans for ELWs full stop.

I want to fly through clouds at some stage! 😁
 
They did hinted to some Engineering changes in 2021
But i guess it will depend on how many bug fixes/patches they will have to release for Odyssey

If anyone is wondering why I didn't ask about Dev Diary 3 .... not that I think anyone is wondering .... I didn't think it was appropriate given I've asked it twice already and there's a trailer coming tomorrow. And the first post said they'd ignore questions they've already answered.
 
Well I did my best to ask about grappling hooks or littleraly anything that could help stop a ship for piracy multiple times and I was just ignored. I guess piracy is just dead and buried.
