I haven't yet found the chain of causality here, but since all the drama in the forums and social network started lately I feel the urge to go out exploring again. It's kind of like getting away from it all and only coming back again when everything is settled down a bit again.
On a more serious note, I really think we should calm down a bit and take a step back.
A new update was released - there were bugs* in it: This was to be expected. The community should now report all the bugs, make suggestions and constructive criticism and not refer to insults. I can only imagine what it's like to work for a project for half a year and then have to read how 'pathetic your work is', written by people who obviously don't have background knowledge of your work.
Reading through the forums lately I feel a bit like I'm on a hype train - but in the opposite direction. I guess, that's the Internet for you....
* concerning bugs:
There is a lot complaints about the "Nerf Bat" Fdev are using, so here are my to cents about the matter:
I think it's rather easy. Those gold rushes lately where clearly not intended, therefore bugs and need to be fixed. As far as I understand it that is also the overall consensus of the community, the game has to be balanced.
However those things clearly showed one of the biggest issue ED currently has, which is the scaling (investment, time, money, effort, difficulty,..) of things.
In my year with Elite I have learned one thing: They will fix it / improve (think about route planning, bookmarking, engineering, trading and so many more) it eventually, just be patient. So that's what I'm going to do.
I'm writing all of this because I think so far 3.0 is great with all its fixes and improvements, but it's all a bit tainted due to the money discussion. I think that's very unfortunate and the update should get the praise it deserves!
