All this hysteria about rushing to buy Vive because it's "better"

Well you know... the spec is higher. Vive has wavy wands, has laser tracking (although mechanical scanning motors are a negative).

Well taking a close look at the vive's lenses: Fresnel. I have a lot of experience with these lenses for gaming and they have some issues. They look like low density rings and with Fresnel in general they are very high in reflections. A review I read for the Vive Pre makes note of this issue: considerable reflections when the image contains large areas of black with some contrasting bright areas. Under these conditions you will see many light reflections. It seems they aren't using AR coating or if they are... it doesn't help much.

Fresnel lenses have a very tiny sweet-spot.

I do not know that the current atmosphere is rushing to the HTC Vive because it is "Better". I do know for me personally I would just like to have a good sample pool of products. This will allow me to weigh the pros and cons of each device. That being said I am a very happy owner of the Oculus DK2 and will probably eventually end up purchasing the CV at some point. I do however want to get a feel for the price point, quality, and compatibility of the product/s before I make a purchasing decision. It should be noted that I do several different things with my VR Headset outside of ED and I have no doubt that the Oculus will be supported by Frontier that being said compatibility should still be a driving issue for anyone investing at this early stage of the game.

Just my perspective.
Thanks

I haven't heard of any specs that are higher, apart from maybe the head tracking accuracy.

The Vive has more features (Chaperone, motion controllers, etc), but the actual specs that we care about on both (screen, optics) it does seem to be slightly lower.

The Vive hysteria is appreciation of those features, and backlash against the Rift price (by those who might be anticipating it will be cheaper).
