Well you know... the spec is higher. Vive has wavy wands, has laser tracking (although mechanical scanning motors are a negative).
Well taking a close look at the vive's lenses: Fresnel. I have a lot of experience with these lenses for gaming and they have some issues. They look like low density rings and with Fresnel in general they are very high in reflections. A review I read for the Vive Pre makes note of this issue: considerable reflections when the image contains large areas of black with some contrasting bright areas. Under these conditions you will see many light reflections. It seems they aren't using AR coating or if they are... it doesn't help much.
