There is no such thing as a 'Hippy Punk'. And yes, Crass wrote 'Punk Is Dead'; and they were right. Punk died when it substituted ideas for ideology. Punk went from youth expression, to conforming to a political angle. That will never work. 'Punk Rock' in it's original realisation; as in new bands at the time, had no agenda. Like the Mods, it was a case of: get your own identity away from your war screwed parents.

I'm not a fanboi. There are many things I disagree with about Crass. The attack on masculinity, is not a good thing for young boys to adopt as a way of 'thinking'. The song 'Rival Tribal Rebel Revel' is a total assumption of working class skinhead culture without the 'right to reply'.


Crass were never a Punk band. They were people with money and land. They had a mysterious attraction, but with age, just like ghost stories, the truth is so obvious. The logo invites conversation. I prefer this, though:
