Allied with a major faction

Just wondering what general experience is with how long it takes to get allied with a major faction? My experience is, after 2 months playing (not that I'm playing loads), lots of blue arrows but staying Neutral. Minor faction status change is no problem, but major faction, well, either I'm missing something or my gauge is stuck.

One other thought, it would be really nice to see exactly how popular you are (on a percentage scale I guess), more data would help to know if this is something to be ticketed, or just "is what it is".

it takes a long long time.

The easiest way to upgrade major factions is probably trading with a range of minor factions, trade with a minor faction and sooner or later you are allied with it without trying, and your major faction rep continues to rise.

Did you search the words "allied with faction"? You'd be amazed how much information comes up. Basically keep doing missions for one faction and you shall get there soon enough. Its not fast but its not slow either. You just need to keep working for one faction. Do missions, mine and sell the ore at the factions stations, kill wanteds (bounty hunt) and claim the vouchers at your faction etc. Good luck.

I am Allied with the Federal Congress in Sol. Just keep doing missions for one faction and then you will eventually get some rank/permit missions. It takes a while but I found I could do it over a weekend, at least at release anyway.

I cannot generalize, but in my case it was matter of few days - actually I do not know how exactly it happened. But once I started bounty hunting and got allied with local faction, I got friendly with major (Empire) one and in few days I was allied too. Since it was Empire, it is impossible that I developed the "affinity" silently before. Basically once I got into Imperial space it started leveling. I suspect it could be due to the bounties I turned in.

Key I found was to find a minor faction OP that was offering loads of trading missions that would involve the Major Factions Hub and nearby other allied minor factions.. For the first few days I did think nothing was happening - the blue seemed to fill but then stop, then all of a sudden after another day it just seemed to steam roll.
