Allied with Empire but no rank mission

There are bugs reported regarding rank. However since 1.3 getting missions for ranks takes way more effort than it used to. Getting reputation past unfriendly has little to do with getting rank missions. If you do a forum search there are a few threads discussing how to progress. It just takes a lot of missions. I thought mine bugged but after a while I get to recruit with the federation. Then I went to Tun to see if it was consistent, did 20 or 30 donation missions added onto the ton of missions I did after getting recruit and then I got to cadet. It really does seem that they've just increased the number of missions required.

Yeah, without any progress bar it wouldn't hurt us to know how much it does take. Info on GalNet please - make it useful and an incentive to know it is actually working for us to bother trying.
Ya there were a couple points where I was considering waiting to hear something as there has been reports of this being bugged and it may indeed just be bugged for some people. To the OP, I have read some people have asked support to look into their account and see if it's working as intended as well so you may want to try that.
I have just finished a three-day slog performing missions in a three-system group to get the rank-up mission from Count to Earl.
Each rank-up has required more and more missions to have been carried out before the imperial navy rank-up (ascension) mission is offered. If you carry out as many charity missions (those which don't pay you credits for completing) as come up, that will help (not just the donation ones) as they count as "high" for your reputation, whereas fetch and carry are only "low". I didn't do many of the smuggling or assassination missions so I don't know if they are bugged but the others will get you there, you just have to be patient.
I suppose if you find that your have carried out a large number of missions for your allies without getting offered even a "serf" rank-up mission then maybe raising a support ticket will get them to check your status.
