I'd love being able to have actual NPC crew in crew seats all the time. I actually don't particularly care if they don't do anything, so long as they talk with me. Having NPC crew on long flights would feel great, and make the experience less lonely. We could all wear the same uniform, and I'd feel like I had a real ship crew.

An easy change would be to use the NPC's voice instead of the default computer. You already have the voice actors when they do the voices for the fighter pilots. I'm not sure how many they have already recorded.
