Allow us to set weapon convergence for a set of hard points

I went from the viper to the cobra and the transition as a bit of a shock when I noticed how awkward the bottom side small hard points are to use. Can you allow us to set the convergence on a set of hard points? For example alow us to set the convergence of say a pair of missiles to say 300m and instead of converging together 1km away converge at 300m? This would be an extremely useful feature and would make peoples lives in say the cobra or federal dropship with those awkwardly placed hardpoints just that little bit better.

As I can see, convergence is automatic, and the weapons do their best to try and focus on their targets, and this is limited by your ship's hull. Setting convergence wouldn't help much as you can't fire through the constraints of the hardpoint.

When you can do that (and pretty much have to) with the guns of WW1 planes, as Rise of Flight teaches us :p, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to adjust convergence for spaceship weapons. Even the fixed weapons aren't exactly moulded into metal blocks, utterly immobile, after all.

Fixed are generally superior to gimbals in both efficiency and power and are not affected by anything other than crap aim.

This would be okay as long as it required returning to an outfitting post at a station to change.

I didn't talk about gimbaled weapons, I was talking about fixed ones. Setting convergence would mean that after the set distance the beams/bullets/whatever would start to fly away from each other, and this doesn't seem to be the case. The only time when fixed weapons start to act awkward is when the target is too close for the hardpoint to adjust, aside from that they seem to converge on your target automatically be it 300m or 2km away.

well i think its part of the character of each ship. yes cobras hardpoints are not optimal by far, but well thats what makes the cobra the cobra ^^ also balancing would get a LOT harder with configurable convergence. (not to speak of added complexity already to much for most of modern gamers ...)
 
It would hardly affect balancing at all. Adjusting weapon convergence is more of a matter of fighting style customisation than anything else. All it does is give you exactly one optimal firing distance - and what distance that is, is a matter of preference.

It would hardly affect balancing at all. Adjusting weapon convergence is more of a matter of fighting style customisation than anything else. All it does is give you exactly one optimal firing distance - and what distance that is, is a matter of preference.

well it is, there will be those who adjusted the convergence, and thos who didnt.

in a time where players cant even dock or even find the entrance to the station, it will really terrify them! ^^

I would like to add my vote for this suggestion. It would be a great addition to ship outfitting. As a previous post pointed out, fixed weapon convergence could be set using a simple slider. Something like this would be a feature for those pilots who have a preference for dog fighting, either at long range or short range. Allowing them to better configure their ships for which ever task they are interested in accomplishing.

Customization like this would be a welcomed enrichment.
