Alpha/Beta - NDA's

From all I have seen so far, the game seems awesome, far exceeding my initial expectations. I hope I don't come across as too grumpy or mean; I think I have developed a very unhealthy enthusiasm for ED.

Points about NDAs aside, I am looking forward to the game.. I've been waiting for it for nearly 30 years and I think I might have few screws loose as a result.:(

You raised good concerns, which I am sure would have and has been raised internally and I wouldn't be surprised if the fear, "is this good enough?" will be shared within Frontier :).

I think we've witnessed a market shift within the last couple of years, Kickstarter, early access etc has opened up the world of development to gamers who might otherwise be unaware of what happens behind the scenes as it was not so long ago since we would either buy a magazine with released screenshots of an upcoming game and also websites doing the same thing, now we're seeing concept art, build process and even offering direct feedback during development. The term Alpha outside of those who have encountered software development before would have been unheard of, those actually in it were employees or carefully selected individuals who were required to submit signatures on the NDA before they were even granted access.

So, no you're not losing any screws :).

They did pretty good keeping the 'skunkworks' Elite: Dangerous project secret for what... six years, was it?
Probably did not want the bad publicity like the massive wait for Duke Nukem Forever - so they waited until they were sure.

An NDA only works (and then not very well) between a small number of of legal entities. It would be utterly pointless using one on for an Alpha test. It would be unenforceable anyway. There won't be one.

Cheers,

Drew
