Alpha Combat Test Remake - Game Mode

Hey guys, every time I see an Alpha Combat Video, such as CMDR Braben's fights, I hear the sounds and I remember the glorious backdrop of Ethics and Credits, and I yearn to play it. How about we all petition FD to add that into the game, perhaps in 1.4/1.5, as an option in the start menu other than Open Play, Private Group and Solo (Assuming they still have the files! :D). I want a separate section of the game, where you could go when you're done doing all of your normal universe activities, to take up arms against each other on even terms, with no costs to think about.

Please, leave a reply and let this thread rise to the top so the developers can see it. I would be happy with a "Maybe", or a "No", but I can't die happy without a response.

Also, here's just a little list of things that I miss, that you can skip over if you want, as they don't add much to the thread:

-The servo whir of the multicannons (They sounded like gears turning and metallic clanking, right?)
-The heavy pounding of the pulse lasers (They went "BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!" rather than "pew, pew, pew!")
-The glorious backdrop (We need to expand to the California/Pleiades! This opens up tourism!)

To leave the thread on a positive note, I think FD did an excellent job on designing the Fragment Cannons, they look positively ferocious! :p

It could be posible as a multiplayer combat trainer in the same way the single combat trainer works training with wings wing vs wing etc

I'd be all for this if it was separate from the game......it would help cut down on the players who treat Elite like it is Call of Duty in space I would think.....at least in theory.

I suppose a dedicated Arena mode has a place in the game as an option - the question is, how does it interact (or not) with the other modes?

Perhaps it doesn't affect your CMDR profile at all - deaths don't count, money isn't earned, it's just freewheeling PvP. Maybe to unlock a ship in Arena you'd have to have bought it at least once in the game (so noobs can't PvP in Anacondas right away).

On the one hand it would give you a chance to practice your PvP skills with guaranteed turnout.

But on the other hand - wouldn't you be losing something from the main game? A sense of risk? People getting used to getting splashed a dozen times in this setting might carry that attitude over to Open.

Would it get to a point where everybody has to clock time in the PvP simulator if they want to stand even a chance in Open PvP encounters?

If such a setting was introduced, I'd like to suggest something cute: make it retro. Have the mechanics work exactly the same but use Frontier/FFE style graphics and sounds instead - make it seem like its a simulator in the simulator ;)

Now that is a unique idea......hope I can give rep :)

Well, I was just asking FD to simply add the old Alpha Combat Test in as a separate game mode, completely separate from your normal CMDR, and the only ship available is the Sidewinder, in the select variety of loadouts that were available in the Alpha Combat Test. Ethics and Credits, the warzones, etc, with no new additions. After all, we don't want FD to spend a huge amount of time on this, we want 1.4! (And hopefully, the Federal Corvette!)

Same sounds, same mechanics, same bugs, everything.

Oh, I can get behind that too. :D
