Alpha Hype Train Running on Fumes?

I probably expect too much because I'm a drama queen, but I was hoping the marketing materials would be flowing more frequently as we get closer to the Alpha release. We keep hearing from the CM team that we should be seeing more about Odyssey in the coming weeks. It seems there are many things about Odyssey that are still "up in the air", so to speak.

Are my expectations of "more" wrong? Anyone else think we should be seeing more content reveals or is your feeling that the flow has been adequate... or possibly even too much?

Something like “we’ve made the difficult decision to push the PC alpha to late summer 2021 to ensure high quality etc... Consequently, we’ve also had to make the even more difficult decision to delay the console release until late spring 2022”.

Good point, maybe some controversy is expected that will be smoothed over by the time the launch rolls around.

Rumor is that fiscal year ends in May and they want to release Odyssey before that date, for investors.

Good point, I’m thinking from the perspective of them marketing to their followers, I.e. people following on Twitter or the forums, etc.

They will probably have an alpha trailer and press release, and more press and trailer for the full pc release.

Alpha marketing was presumably a success and was not needed past getting enough people to pay extra to test it.

I was kind of expecting the marketing campaign for odyssey to have started months ago... sneak peeks in the newsletters, weekly teasers, peroper trailers, dev diaries...

Meanwhile I just accepted the fact this is how FD's marketing rolls... and that I would have to wait until the alpha to find out what's in Odyssey by myself.

I must admit it this is one of the slowest drip feeds of info I have experienced for a game ever. I understand why they do this for movies, cos...well, spoilers. However, I really don't understand what fdev are trying to achieve by withholding so much info. Its quite weird and it certainly makes me more concerned than hyped.

I'm really wondering when this last dev diary is going to be released. Logicically it would have been in the next supercruise news stream this week, giving people the next 2 weeks to discuss and anticipate the vast majority of features that have only been mentioned, yet no announcement for it and not even sure if they will even have one.

I dont think they will. Frontier have a pretty thick skin for releasing buggy so.. i think they're probably in the "we've delayed it the maximum number of times" as cdpr was with cyberpunk. I cant imagine frontier doing crunch so its probably a very calm event with tea and stuff.
